    1. [MOYERS] RE: Migration Patterns

    3. Throughout the 18th century the "Shenandoah Valley" and it's neighboring waterways constituted for the Scotch-Irish to make their way from PA into KY and TN as did the Canadian French using the St. Lawrence Valley and the New York Dutch using the Hudson Valley. The Pennsylvania pioneers traveled down old Route 11, once an Indian Trail, later a wagontrail down a 400 miles stretch into TN, the Smoky Mtns and the Carolina's in search of a better way of life for various reasons. Eveb Rt. 66 crosses old Rt. 40 in Maryland just minutes from the PA border, a road I'm sure many have heard of and a very old historical road at that which is why so many fight to keep Rt 66 as it is. By tracking these routes, especially the Cumberland Valley area where many old Indian trails are still used today - now seen in more updated roads, we can learn more about the hows, who's, what's and when our ancestors' migrated and why. Many southerns migrated from VA, WV, MD, the Carolina's, NJ, NY and PA and as far away as Canada, and though from PA and old VA would still return to the northern areas of America to attend college; visit family; they used those wagon's and coaches alot more then we assumed they did. Matter of fact, the more I read on "migration patterns" within old America, our ancestors' moved around this country alot more then we do these days. My point is, don't have a closed-mind in pinpointing one particular area; they didn't always stay in just one place. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER
