Just a note to let the HURST MYERS MOYERS and PA to TN groups know that I just got back from a 2 day research tour of Lebanon, but mostly Berks County, PA. I found many HOUST/HURST MEYER MOYER burials as well as roads & businesses named as such. My research was in the MYERSTOWN, CHARMING VILLAGE, STOUCHSBERG, SCHAFFERTOWN, HEINDENBERG, REISTOWN, WOMELSDORF areas of TULPEHOKEN in Berks CO., PA between the Lebanon County line and Reading PA area. I can tell you that there were only 3 basic types of churches I seen and I seen/visited a lot; Mennonite, Amish and Reformed all dating back from 1734 to mid 1700's. Some of the other towns were (so many) SCHAFFERTOWN, 5 miles east of MYERSTOWN; SCHAFFERTOWN had 2 main churches. 1 was very very old with a big very well kept cemetery up behind it on top of a good sized hill where you can see all the surrounding valleys and South Mtn from; this church was St. Lukes Evangelical Luthern; though it was formed in 1730 by the congregation the church now standing was built in 1765 with enlargements and remodeling down in 1884. The surnames I seen in this huge cemetery were HOUST HURST MILLER MEYER MOYER OBE (new on for me), DIFFENBACH WEAVER BOLLINGER CHAMBERS EMERICK (I know they're surname changed to EMERT'S) SIEMONS (SIMMONS) WIEDMEN WHITMAN ALBRIGHT so many; Jonas EMERT b Jan 21, 1802 d 1878; Marian E. EMERICH b 1776 d??; Leonard CHAMBERS 1/17/1767 d 1866 Too many to list. I took a lot of photos and I suggest if anyone is interested in this huge old cemetery where Reformed Settlers were known to come in and settle upon arrival thru Phila. PA early 1700 to mid 1700's write to Berks County, PA Historical Society & the PA Historical Society; a sign suggested as such on the site. You can find them out here on the internet at http://www.googl.com/ where I'm heading shortly myself to search, too. Another very old town just down the road known for very early 1700's settlements was called WOMELSDORF, about 6 miles down on Route 219 from SCHAFFERTOWN; and in between this area, about 3 miles up 501 was REISTOWN where I found a Brethren Church (Amish or Mennonite, prob. Amish as I was surronuded by nothing but) called HEINDENBERG Church of Brethren I found loads of MOYER & MEYER (more then just a few) in the same line; BOLLINGER MILLER WEAVER a lot of ROYER & GETTEL'S whom married into these MEYER MOYER'S. Just to name a few: SAME ROW ALL NEXT TO ONE ANOTHER AND READ AS SUCH: Abraham P. MEYER b 1872 d 1947 & Wife Elizabeth B. b 1879 d 1951 Howard, son of Abraham & Lizzie MEYER b Oct 23, 1902 d Mar 21, 1904 2y Abraham MOYER b Oct 1, 1830 d Oct 2, 1905 74 y 11 m 28d Elizabeth MEYER, wife of Abraham b Jan 8, 1834 d Oct 22, 1903 69y 9 mo 14 days Johns, Chapter 16 Verse 33 Lizzie MOYER daughter of Abraham & Elizabeth MOYER b Nov 21, 1863 d May 31, 1884 20 y 6 mo 10d German Verses on bottom of stone Father John C. MOYER b June 21, 1854 d March 25, 1932 Mother Amanda G. b June 26, 1853 d Feb 26, 1933 Tillie M. MOYER wife of Nathan G. ROYER b Sept 6, 1859 d Apr 2, 1904 41 y 6 mo 20 days. *NOTE the variation of the surname MOYER to MEYER 4 more miles up the road from Schafferstown, you turn left onto Rt 501 N to Rt 219 EAST & again and you're heading towards Womelsdorf just outside of MEYERSTOWN crossing from Lebanon into Berks County, PA and there were 3 very old good churches, 2 w/cemeteries. 1 - The Zion & St. John Reeds Luthern built 1824; their website is http://www.reedschurch.org no cemetery 2 - Talpehoeken Trinty United Church of Christ <--- Great place. I'm sending away for this very old fair sized well maintained cemetery; SIMMONS MEYER MYERS MOYERS buried there along with a long list of many more. This was part of 100 acres deed to this area by Caspar WISTAR of Phila. PA in 1738 for schooling and churches for the founding "reformed" lutherans that settled in this area. It's located on TULPEHOKEN Road in Berks Co., PA. 3 - Evangelical Reformed Church on LONG'S Church Road just to the right off of Rt 219 heading east abt 4 miles outside of MYERSTOWN; huge big church with a cemetery that's very large but not so well taken care of (the older section was a mess) the newer section was fine. Need to research this one. That's all I can tell you and I can not tell you anything else except the I know the my EMERT/EMERICK lines came in from Berks Co., PA as well as a speculation MYERS line; I know that my ggg's children married into CHAMBERS. That my lines were in Sevier/Jefferson/Blount Counties of TN by the 1800's and the same exact surnames that I have listed above either married directly in my direct lines in TN or inter-married; as well, it's known that a few traveled together from the areas I mention in Berks Co., PA. So... That's it, nothing certain. I'm making another trip up there this summer to get inside of libraries. Will keep you posted then. P.S. I've only been home a few hours after driving for days; I'm tried and I might have posted in error or didn't explain right. Sorry, did the best I could. -- -- -- -- -- Chrystie MYERS
