Suzie, My ggggg was Elizabeth EMERT, dau of Frederick EMERT & Barbara NEIDIG/KNIGHT of Emerts Co., Sevier Co., TN; he migrated down from Berks Co., PA! You should see how old these sites were. EMMERT EMMOTT was how it was seen in NC; EMERT in TN; I found a Leonard, Philip and ?? EMERICK in Scafferstown, about 6 miles south of MYERSTOWN where Isaac MEIER/MYER founded that area; seen the house built ca1850; he was born in 1835; est. MYERSTOWN 1768. Not head east from here and you're in WOLMSDORD and the MOYER MEYERS I seen and most were all in the same line and there was no doubt they were son of or daughter of because it stated as such. I tried to think of various reasons for the name change... And the one that seemed that made the most sense was that they spoke heavy german; read / wrote it as well and whomever made the stone (now or then) spelled it as they simply assumed it should be spelled.
