Rupp According to the German naming custom, all males in a family (and females) were usually given the SAME first name (after a dead relative or favorite saint). Johan and Johann and Hans were favorites. These men never went by their first names but went by their 2nd (given) names. Therefore, each Johan/Johann or Hans listed could have never gone by or used that name in later records. That was the only mention of a ship from Holland or Rotterdam, or with "Palatines". The 20th of October 1747 was a Tuesday, not a Monday. It is possible that the ship could have arrived on the 19th, and the passengers didn't come ashore until the next day, hence the date on the list. I rechecked the microfilm of the original ship's list at the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg, but there were no clues to the identity of the ship on the lists, only the date of 20 OCT 1747 and that the ship sailed from Rotterdam, which is in Holland. The only Captain Abercrombie mentioned in "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" was James Abercrombie. He was the captain of the Lydia when it arrived on 19 SEP 1743. The next time the Lydia arrived was on 24 SEP 1747, and William Tiffin had taken over as its captain. James Abercrombie appears as captain of the ship St. Andrew on 9 SEP 1749, 14 SEP 1751, and on 23 SEP 1752, the only dates in that time interval when the St. Andrew appears on the Philadelphia ship lists. I love the Olive Tree Site. I have spent so much time running newsgroups; and mainly keeping 2,400 pages updated and nowhere near done, that I don't know what it is to "surf around"! LOL Sometimes, rare, I do head over to google.com and conduct a search. My site always comes up. I then quit, as a rule.
