    1. [MOYERS] Joseph Myers (Moyers) & wife Jane (Jackson?) - Pennsylvania 1800
    2. Thomas Myers
    3. I am fervently searching for information regarding a Joseph Myers / Moyers and his wife Jane both born in Pennsylvania (ca. 1800?) and later moved to OH at least by 1837 according to the census listing as follows. In an earlier listing I noticed someone had posted the German tradition of family naming convention and this appears to be true in my family as well: My Great Grandfather 'Peter' Moyers/Myers was born 'Peter Jackson Myers' in OH in 1837 s/o Joseph & Jane. Peter named his first born son 'Joseph Jackson Myers'. This Joseph, in turn, named his first born son 'Peter'. Hence it is my belief that Joseph's (my ggGrandfather) father was likely named 'Peter'. On another interesting note, it was also a common tradition to give the middle name of the child after the maiden name of the mother. This leads me to believe that the 'Jane' I'm searching for may have been named 'Jane Jackson'. Lastly, regarding this specific family line, the last name was changed from MYERS to MOYERS post Civil War. I know this because Peter's name at time of enlistment in 1861-1862 was given clearly as MYERS. In this 1880 Michigan census is also listed a John Moyers. Does anybody out there have ANY information to add to or clarify these findings? PLEASE? Thx - Thomas Myers 1880 Census Michigan, Calhoun County, Sheridan Township June 9, 1880 ED 62 Page 21, line 43 address 220 MOyers, Peter J. - 40 yr - Farmer - born Ohio, father and mother born Penn Catharine (Holmes daughter of John D., Jacob) - 39 yr - wife - born Ohio, father and mother born Penn Joseph Jackson - 12 yr - son - at school - born Ohio, father and mother born Ohio William Curtis - 11 yr - son - at school - Ohio, Ohio, Ohio Eliza Jane - 9 yr - daughter - at school - Michigan, Ohio, Ohio Arizona - 7 yr - son - Michigan - ohio, ohio Montana Andrew (Mont P.)- 2 yr - son - Michigan - Ohio, Ohio Joseph - 73 yr - father - born Penn, father and mother born Penn Again, it is clearly MOyers on this census. 3. Thomas, Honestly, there were 2 families, MOYERS and MYERS that traveled from PA, thru Winchester, VA in the mid to late 1700's and on in to the Civil War era. While passing thru Winchester this past summer (twice) I traveled several miles down Route 11 to a town called Stephens City; very old and historical town that old pioneer settlers stayed - some for short periods while they had their supplies replenished and their wagons fixed and others choose to live there for 1 to 4 generations or so. Both of these lines did come in from PA down Rt 11. Some did endup in OHIO; others in upper VA, now Tyler/Wetzel Co., VA; and some straggled down into KY TN NC etc... There is a house that stiill stands from the early 1800's and it's called Jane MYERS house. Her house is always on my mind because I was suppose to get back up there to do more research but my hands have/are giving me a fit/surgeries etc... so it will have to wait until next year sometime. The MOYERS spelled their names as such on old land platts but as MYERS on tombstones;the MYERS were the same. Probably the town recordmakers/takers wrote it "however". You might want to check into this area for Jane. I have a photo on my website of her home. It's a brown 2floor boxed type, the usual older type house. It's registered at Stephens City Historical Society where they surely can give you more info on her and her line. I think the link to my site is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chrystiem/albums/stephenscity/ if not, try link below my name at bottom of this email - look for Virtual Cemeteries/Town Tours.
