Thomas Polk, 1775, was a signer of the Mecklenberg Declaration of Independence and colonel of minute men. He served in the Provincial Congress and also as commissary general. William Polk fought through the war and rose from lieutenant to colonel. He was a member of the Cincinnati. Allen Jones, 1774-76, was a member of the Provincial Congress, of the Committee of Safety of Hailfax county and was brigadier general of militia. In 1779 he was elected to the Continental Congress and was succeeded by his brother Willie. Nicholas Long served in the Provincial Congress, on the Committee of Safety and was deputy quartermaster general. Thomas Clendinen was a soldier under the brave Marion. Jacob Myers served under Sumpter and was with the army when surprised by Tarleton at Fishing Creek, August 18, 1780, and was at the surrender of Cornwallis. Joseph Estell, 1777, commanded a company of Gloucester county militia in the Jersey battles and served to the close of the war. He died in 1792, aged forty-two. Jacob Myers, 1776, enlisted under Capt. DAR ID Number: 9696 Born in Mississippi. Widow of Thomas Harding Torrey. Descendant of Judge Jacob Myers and of Thomas Clendinen, of South Carolina; Maj. Benjamin Catchings, of Georgia. Daughter of Thomas J. Catchings, M. D., and Nannie McNeece Clendinen, his wife. Granddaughter of Robert Clendinen and Mary Ellen Myers, his wife; Joseph Catchings and Mary Holliday, his wife. Gr.-granddaughter of Col. David Myers and Phalby Mills, his wife; Benjamin Catchings and Mildren Carleton, his wife; Thomas Clendinen and Nannie McNeece, his wife. Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Jacob Myers and Catherine Von Enfinger, his wife. Jacob Myers rose to the rank of major under the command of Sumpter and Marion. He died in 1804 and was buried with military honors in Lexington county. Thomas Clendinen served as a soldier under Marion and his sister was scalped by the Indians when carrying food to him in camp. He died at Fishing Creek in 1817. Benjamin Catchings was surgeon of Washington county, judge of the Land Court and a member of the Constitutional Convention.
