I have recently found out that my wife's Myers descend from John Moyers/Myers of Franklin Co., VA who married Catherine Naff in Franklin Co., VA 7 Feb 1797. John died 6 Oct 1846 in Fayette Co., IN. He is believed to have been born abt. 1775 in Frederick Co., MD. Does this fit in with anyone's line? Thanks, Garland Edgell
Garland As I write this, I'm working on new information handed to me by a D.A.R. registered historian/genealogist from the Jefferson/Sevier and Blount counties of TN regarding my one MYERS line. She and a libraian in charge of my family files in the Seviervill library adamently tell me that my line came in from VA. They told me to look for a John MYERS and the immigrant ancestor was Georg MAYER. So, it's still speculation at this point but I have seen the name Catherine NAFF in my tavels. It's such a brickwall at this point that I can't say if there is a connection or not. As well, I've found so many different MYERS MYRES MOYER(S) MIER(S) and MAHER/MAYER/MAYAR'S that I'm even at a total loss as to which line is connected and which ones are not. The MYERS/MOYERS surname was about as popular as the SMITH'S and JONES'S in the 1700's making it that much hardier to differentiate between them. It didn't help matters any that the pioneer settlers migrated from PA/VA/KY/OH/TN/NC in a "jump around" manner. The words "let's pickup and move" must have been in their everyday conversations. More then 1/2 of the early TN settlers came in through old VA migrating in from PA. I really wish I could make a connection with you. Keep my email as I'll do the same and possibly one day we can connect. Many out here have asked me to look for Christian MYERS, son of Christian MOYER, son of Hans Christian MAYER. I've found no less then "3" lines thus far. Chrystie, Thanks. I have a lot of information on the family of Catherine Naff. They come form the area of the German/Swiss border. I suspect the Moyers/Myers that John descends from may have come from that area too.
