Hi Debbie Graviett and welcome to the MOYERS group! First off, I want to be the first to welcome you to the MOYERS Newsgroup where we all have one thing in common - trying to untangle our ancestry roots. You're line (below) looks alot like many of our groups; it seems that either the MOYER(S) started out in PA or VA. That's one for certain. After that, they really broke loose into VA/WV - OH - KY and NC - TN - GA - MO - ILL (TX and CA too)! I've seen alot on Berks Co., PA as well as Washington, Lancaster, York and Lebanon Counties of PA; actually, I've also read, more times then I care to admit, that at one time most of PA was filled to the brim with MYERS MIER(S) MOYER(S) MAYER(S) and MEYER(S). I list the spelling as such since (speaking for myself as well as many others) my MYERS surname has been seen spelled at least that many different ways, sometimes on just one document. Your line also shows a typical migration pattern for many that began in PA. They usually took the western route through old VA, now parts of WV, throu NC and westerly again thru TN to MO, ILL, KY and OH. We've all got a John MOYER(S) in our lineage, as you'll find alot of Jacob's too (Bobbye will enjoy that one). I can't say I've seen the name CONTIR yet, but I have heard of the Gophenheimer church as well as seeing the surname COTNER. Have you seen it spelled in any other way, such as CONTER or KOTNER, the latter being an old German/PA name. In the Westminster area of Maryland, not too far from PA the library holds alot of good old PA MOYERS/MEYERS/MYERS records. I've gotta get up there again. Again, welcome aboard and I hope one of us can help you connect. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER > > Christie and all, > My name is Debbie Moyer Graviett and my line starts with John Moyers and > Esther Contir that were married in Gophenheimer Church? in Berks Co.
