MD Historical Society And 2 books, one is an original signed by Brantz MAYER, Esq. in Balto., MD written by him in 1878 dating his family back to 1495. Titled, "Memoir and Genealogy" of the Maryland and Pennsylvanian family of MAYER which orginated inthe Free Imperial City of Ulm, Wurtemberg, 1495-1878 by Brantz MAYER. I have the private copy 112 of 500 which were printed only for his direct family members. (I also have a reprint of which I use). There are 3 Christopher Bartholomew MAYER's in this line that dates back to 1495 b. Melchoir MAYER, in the Free Imp. City of Ulm, in Suabian League; he was made Stadthaumptmann of the city - military dignity. He and his sons were in the military service of the Emperor of Germany, and according to archives in Vienna, Austria, the heraldic arms borne were granted to his family from this parliment rule. Sons include: Hans Gorg, or Jon George MAYER b. in lauingen m. to Anna Maria KUPFER - records at the Munster-Kirche of Ulm in 1786; Hans Gorg was the great grandfather of Christopher Bartholomew MAYER - the founder of the Lancaster Co., PA branch immigrating to US in 1752; ggg grandfather of Christian MAYER who immigrated to US in 1784; founder of the Maryland branch. Hans Gorg and Anna Marie were parents to: Johann Melchoir (John Melchior) MAYER b. Sep 11, 1636. Educated at Strasburg. Son of Johann Melchoir (John Melchior) MAYER was Marcus "Marx" MAYER b. Apr 18, 1684 at Leipheim; d. at Ulm Jul 21, 1740; m. Aug 1, 1708 1) Euphrosina LANZENBERGER b. Jan 11, 1684, dau of Christian LANZENBERGER - m. 22 yrs having 16 children - one of their children was Christian MAYER, great grandfather of writer Brantz MAYER. After Euphrosina's death Oct 8, 1732, Marcus rem. to Anna Katharine NUBLING in 1733, dauof Rev. NUBLING of Ubekingen. She was b. Apr. 5, 1708 d. jan 31, 1780. They had 5 children, 2 survived to adulthood: samuel MAYER, b Oct 1734 and Rosina Elizabeth MAYER b. Oct 19, 1735. Christian MAYER, the gg grandson of above and ggrandfather of Brantz m. Dorothea WEBER, dau of Johannes WEBER 1719. Christian also had a sister named Dorothea MAYER. Children to survive; Johannes MAYER who m. Maria Barbara MAYER (cousins). They had one son "Christian" and one dau "Anna Marie". Another son of Johann Melchoir (John Melchior) MAYER: Christopher Bartholomew MAYER (1st of 2) b. at Carlsruhe, according to authorities, Nov 1702. He m. in Ulm to Eva Margaretha SCHEIFEL, b. Nov 24, 1704 in Ulm, dau of Surgeon Bartholomew SCHEIFEL and Anna Marie BERGELDER. Christopher and Eva m. on Sept 1724. She d. in Phila., PA on Sep 27, 1765, buried at Lutheran Churchyard. They had 2 sons and 2 daughters; emigrated to America in 1752 long bef. the Revolutionary War. From Ulm 1751 Christopher B. handed in his citizenship of the Free Imperial of Ulm and migrated to Hague, Holland. From there they found their way into Lancaster, PA along with a son-in-law and dau-in-law. Children are as follows: George Ludwig MAYER John Jacob MAYER Sybilla Margaretha (1st of that name) who m. Rev. B. M. HOUSEAL Dorothea Regina MAYERS They departed early 1752 from Holland and landed at Annapolis MD, then the capitol of British Province of Maryland headed straight for Baltimore, then to Monocacy River/Station area just outside of Frederick, MD - the western part of that province. Christopher Bartholomew acquired land but he soon died after arrival on Nov - just 6 months later. he's buried in the Gottes-Aker" Lutheran Church, Frederick, MD Nov 21, 1752. After Christopher B. MAYER'S death, his family dispersed. Goerge Ludwig headed for Lancaster, PA where many descendants live today (written by Brantz MAYER (1878). Sybilla Margaretha and her husband Rev. HOUSEAL, before going back to Holland married at the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Dorothea Regina MAYER and her brother John Jacob, both still unmarried, left with elder brother Geo. Ludwig to Lancaster where Dorothea m. Jacob SCHULER and settled; John Jacob went to Philadelphia marrying Miss STAEHLIN whos parents were from Carlsruhe; now living in Georgia (1878). George Ludwig MAYER m. 2times. 1st marie Barbara DIEMER of Ulm, d. Oct 30, 1777 in Lancaster, PA. they had a son named: Christopher Bartholomew MAYER the (2nd) born Jan 2, 1783 in Lancaster m. Susannah BURKHART (cousin) b. Mar 14, 1761; d. Jun 26, 1848. He signed his name as Christopher MAYER, was a merchant in Lancaster, very successful. His brother ** Jacob MAYER was a U.S. Consul for Island of San Domingo til a revolution broke out; returned to Phila. PA leaving everything to his brother Christopher.
