I would have never have known this Helen! Thanks for the great tip! I have been trying to find answers from Sevier/Jefferson County historians and librarians and have even written the Southern Baptists Org. as to where I can write to to find old records on my ggg james Napoleon MYERS who was a baptist minister for eons in Sevier. No one could tell me where to look. Thanks to you, I now know to contact the Seminary in Ft. Worth, Tx. Thanks Helen! Hi Helen, and Christy, The information may be there, but finding it is not easy. When I went there were college kids volunteering and none of them had any idea what I was taking about or where to direct me. I finally gave up and left without finding anything. Remember, I live in Fort Worth. i was not there fifteen minutes until i found everything i wanted. they have a card index and all of my myers and basses were sticking out like a sore thumb. someone did an excellent job of the indexing in the fort worth library. i have Xeroxed everything there including the book of the minutes of the church...about 300 pages...it is in two volumes and at 25 cents a page no less. they will not let you Xerox the book, they have to do it and it was rather costly but so many wanted the book that we made so many copies, and they insisted that the original cost of my book be added and then we divided the total cost of all the books between us. i did the work, gasoline etc free but they paid for the original plus the copies. it really did not cost all that much when it was all said and done. love, hugs and blessings, helen.
hold on crissy...is that the closest seminary to your churches? now remember they have housed texas materials but doubt that texas would have is it tennessee things. some where in tennessee or the closest seminary to any of your churches but i bet that the seminary in dallas could tell you where to write or call or even e mail now, for the info. it is my understanding that the closest seminary to where ever the church was located... and the same denomination was what they told me. surely, there is more than one methodist or baptist seminary...for gosh sakes, with all these preachers, there would have to be more than one. call your local church...baptist if your ancestor was a baptist or methodist if he was a methodist...and just ask them where the closest seminary is or would be to that church he pastored. glad i could be of some help to someone...usually i am on the receiving end of the line and it feels good to be on the giving end. lots of love and hugs and many many blessings...may they come today. helen.
Helen, I have ratted my brains out trying every Baptist (Southern) organization in TN; and not once did I ever think of a "Seminary". Brilliant idea!!!! Thanks Helen. An untapped resource. You're right. I'm going to contact (again) the East Tennessee Baptist Organization located near Haywood Co., NC (borders on TN) and ask them... "Where is your nearest Seminar"?
