Need you guys in court with me when that dreaded day comes! Thanks for the support Bobbye. Now, about that Indian blood.... Sitting Bull... hmmmmm... My first guess is that he was probably a Scout, something that I was told was somewhere far back in my MYERS in the TN/VA/KY regions. Story goes that this MYERS, who spelled his name differently in the mid 1800's did all that he could to help the Indians when the above mentioned areas held the Cherokee Nations (they also took in the Chocsaw's under their nation); as far back as ca 1786 their land was being sold out from under them to awaiting pioneer settlers in NC whom came down the Cumberland Gap - east side of the Appalachians hoping to grabup those cheap landtracts. But technically/legally they couldn't take the land til the Indians were treatied out of there; some pioneers didn't wait and pushed on anyway into TN/GA. This area was then knows as either "Land south of OHIO" and/or "Mississippi Territory" but it changed every two years; just as NC owned alot of what is now East TN; handing the land back to TN; then switching again. No wonder it's hard to figure out where the records are - alot was burned behind to cover up land deeds, etc... Gives me a tendency to believe that one reason our ancestors spelled their names differently was to avoid being caught up in bad land buying. I'm sure a few wanted annoymity or however that word is spelled. <--- can't spell! -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER
