I wish I had paid more attention but the glimpse I caught in the movie was the PARKER was writing to someone with the last name of MYERS back home - where I don't know. Also, another research idea I just thought of while watching Littletree - many children of Cherokee ancestry were taken from their families and placed into orphanages - americanization type schools taking away their true names and giving them american names. Many of these children (if not most) never knew their real parents nor remembered their real true names. There surely are files at the Nat'l Archives that documented whom and where these children were from, etc. Also, the other night I was reading about the Orphan Trains. In the mid to late 1800's 30 orphans at a time would be put on trains in NJ and NY and taken by train to different towns with train depots in KY TN MO IL and a few other mid-western states where they'd be choosen by families with the financial abilities to pay for these poor little souls. There is supposedly books that have all of these children's names matter of fact, there's something about this online regarding the publication of these children, who they were and where they were taken. Let me write to my cousin online and ask her for that link again. Chrystie MYERS at [email protected] The List Administrator of the MOYERS MYRES SWECKER COWGER BROOKOVER and KRABAL Rootsweb Newsgroups
