    1. Re: [MOYERS] RE: NOTICE
    2. Chrystie, Heard a cute one yesterday. This lady was I was working with on a project told me about an incident when she was in Tennessee. It seems she was visiting the Smokey Mt area looking at cemeteries. She met a couple and they discussed who they were looking for and their paths crossed at three or four cemeteries. It seems she may have been looking for Birchfields and the other couple was looking for Mars. They had not introduced themselves to each other; so, the next cemetery they visited she saw them sign the register. She went over to discover who they were. MYERS??? MYERS!!! That's the way my grandpa pronounced it. MARS, and he has been dead for fifty years. I thought we were Martians until I was an old lady. I wonder if it is written anywhere as Mars. Bobbye - an Alabama Myers descendant.

    3. Bobbye, You are so right! I can't tell you how many times I've seen MAR MARR MARS and MARRS over and over again in many records. My dad's sister, Aunt Ruth - though raised in Hiawasee, Towns CO., GA her father, my grandfather Ollie Jake MYERS was born in Sevier CO., TN. She keeps telling me that "they" pronounced MYERS as it sounds, and the way she says MYERS in her beautifully southern dialect is MARRS. She has repeatedly told me to look for at the spelling, that it was spelled the way it sounded. Thanks for reminding me of this too. 3. Speaking of southern "speaking", you might find the resulting "r" at the end of some names that really is not there. Suzanner, Georgier, Lular. We need to watch for things like this when we almost decide they are not who we are looking for.
