Pa Greenwich Township. One was a Henry Moyer and wife Eve Rosina who had : 1. Anna Catharine Moyer b. Aug 18, 1747 Baptized in Dunkel's Church Greenwich Twp. with Catharine Adams as Godparent. 2. Philip Henry b. Aug 4, 1748/49 Godparents Philip Dembrister & Anna Elizabeth Hasselberger. Henry & Eve Rosina and family came to Va. c1751/2. for in 1752 Christian Funkhouser & his wife Christina sold Henry land on Holemans Creek in Shenandoah Co. Va. Some church records for Henry and family are found in Old Pine Church , Mill Creek Va. The other Moyer who came to Va. from Greenwich Twn, Berks Co. Pa. , we believe was an older brother of Henry , Ulrick Moyer. Are any of these people in your line? If so, let me know . I may be able to add sone information. 3. CRISSY: THANKS FOR THE INFO. I MAY GET ONE OF EACH, I AM SO TIRED OF FOOLING WITH THIS ONE, I COULD PULL MY HAIR OUT AND I HAVE LOTS OF IT TO PULL. CRISSY, I WISH YOU WOULD DO SOMETHING THAT I THINK WILL BE USEFUL TO THE (MY) GENERATION OR EVEN YOUNGER OR OLDER. I HAVE BEEN GOING TO A LOT OF CEMETERIES LATELY AND HAVE NOTICED, IN PARTICULAR, THE FAMILIES THAT I KNOW REAL WELL...MY FAMILY. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND PEOPLE THINKING THAT YOUR CHILDREN WILL GET YOU A TOMBSTONE. NOW FOR SOME, MAYBE THEY REALLY DON'T CARE, BUT BECAUSE OF GENEALOGY, I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD BE ACCOUNTED FOR. WENT TO A CEMETERY LAST WEEK, A FIRST COUSIN HAS AN ARMY MONUMENT THAT THE GOVERNMENT PUT UP, BUT POOR OLD MOM IS DOWN THERE WITHOUT ANYTHING. I JUST THINK FOR 100.00 EACH, THEY COULD HAVE PUT MOTHER WHO GAVE THEM LIFE, A TOMBSTONE, THOUGH SMALL. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE SIZE OF A SLOP JAR OR THE BIGGEST CAR BUT TO ME, RESPECT NEEDS TO BE SHOWN AT OUR CEMETERIES. THEY ARE NOT MOYERS BUT IT DOESN'T HURT TO GET SOMEONE A SMALL FOOTSTONE (THERE ARE THREE BOYS AND ALL HAVE GOOD JOBS AND DOING WELL AND YOUNG. BECAUSE I AM NOT WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO BUY MINE, AS SOON AS I GET THE COMPUTER THINGS OUT OF THE WAY...YOU CAN BET, I AM GOING TO HAVE A FOOTSTONE NOW AND HOPEFULLY, IF I GET A CHANCE AT A LITTLE MAD MONEY, WHO KNOWS, MAYBE INSTEAD OF PUTTING IT ON THE HOUSE, I WILL PUT IT IN A BIG STONE AT THE CEMETERY. THANKS FOR THE INPUT...LOVE, HUGS AND BLESSINGS....HELEN.

    3. Hi, Christie: Thanks for answering my message. My grandfather, Jacob Alfred Myers was born in Zanesville, Ohio, August 2, 1843. I don't know any farther back than that as I don't know his parents names. His anscestors may have spelled it differently. My dad, Fred Thomas Myers, was born in Russellville, Arkansas, but mostly was raised in Ft Smith, Ark. I don't know if they came thru Missouri to Ark. or thru the south. I was born in Van Buren, Arkansas, but was raised just across the line in Oklahoma. I have been in Washington State since 1946, but still have relatives in Okla. & Ark. I didn't know so many Myerses existed or that there were so many different spellings. Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciater. 1. [MOYERS] RE: MEYER Bk - 3
    2. chrystiem
    3. Since the name MEYER is spelled in so many different ways by different members of this numerous family, that among the emigrant ship lists on file at Harrisburg, PA it is never found written MOYER rather more frequently written MEYER, as in old deeds and other signed papers dating back from 100-150 years ago (starting at 1890) whereas it's seen as MEYER or MAYER. However, in records at Harrisburg, PA and other places where clerks and officials wrote the surname in their own handwriting it is seen as: MEYER, MYER, MEYERS, MYERS, MIRE, MEIER, MEIR, MAYER and MOYER. These ancestors wrote German and spelled their name as MEHER, americanized as MEYER which the writer claims he adopted for this book. *So it is safe to assume that though many historical documents used as sources had the surname spelled in the many different ways as I've stated above, the writer of this particular book and lineages has decided to stay within the one spelling of MEYER, to keep it simple. Pg. 10 Our ancestor MEYER, whom settled in America came from the Palatinate, Prussia. No proof whatsoever can be found of his first name, though elder family members from different branches recall it to be "Christopher", the writer believed's his name was Henry for reasons to which he explains. The writer's name is Henry MEYER. He is the son of Henry MEYER born 1795 - died 1881. His father Henry claimed his father the immigrant to be Christopher; an Hon. Jacob G. MEYER of Aaronsburg, PA believed this to be true as well, but the writer is adament in his opionion that from the many land tract documents and immigration papers that his grandfather the immigrant's first name was "Henry". *I find it strange that 3 generations of HENRY MEYER"S wouldn't know that they were named after their father or grandfather as tosay you do not know if you are a Junior or a "3rd", something that I would assume would be important hand-me-down common familylore. But, the writer has alot of substantial proof to back up his theory, which will follow shortly. Though not much is known of the immigrant MEYER while in America and even less abt him historically from Europe. Hon. Jacob G. MEYER, whom the writer refers to quiet frequently is a cousin to the writer. Maj. John MEYER, of Rebersburg, PA whom often stated that his uncle, Philip MEYER was grandson of the MEYER from Germany. That there were 2 brothers that came with their grandfather MEYER suggesting "3" brother immigrants. Apparently after arrival 2 daughters were born to the immigrant MEYER grandfather. That both of these daughters migrated out of PA, one migrated to South Carolina - unsure of the other. One brother didn't like this country, returning to the old country never to be heard from again. That leaves the 2 brother's, both settling in PA but one of the two (possibly) leaving for a NC settlement, eventually. Samuel MEYER of IOWA, son of above mentioned Philip states that he was always told that 3 brothers came together, 2 settled in PA, one left never to be heard from again. 2 seperate tracts of land were taken at the old MEYER settlement "MUHLBACH" of Lebanon Co., PA. 1 by John MEYER and another by Henry MEYER; both tracts adjoined one another adding to the theory that these 2 were brothers. more to follow.... 3. Early History of The MEYER Settlement in America. The MEYERS were numerous in some parts of Germany concluded from the vast amt that emigrated to America annually from a very early era, all mostly European's up to present (time book was written - 1890). It is not the pretense in these writings that all MEYER'S are connected. Insofar, the MEYER surname is as common as MILLER or SMITH. Bef the Great West opened-up for migration and new settlements, Pennsylvania (PA) rec'd more of these MEYER'S emigrants than any other state in the US. Land rec'ds at Harrisburg, PA show that from 1733 - 1752 the MEYER name occurs abt 50 times in connection with land tracts taken in Lancaster Co., PA and some first MEYER names appear more then several times (surely one person bought more then one land tract). A list of some MEYER'S below. *Note the way MEYER is spelled. **Lancaster Co Tracts within hte limits of Lebanon Co., which was taken from Lancaster Co., PA. 3. I was fortunate enough to receive The MEYER Family; written by Henry MEYER in 1890; printed by Lauer and Matill, Cleveland, OHIO from Gary MYERS the 3rd of Columbus OHIO. Thank you Gary! Written on the front page is "Compliments of Mary MEYER ABBOTT" Rebersburg, Centre Co., PA I'll start by telling all of you that there is no surname index, so I"m going to type it out here on the newsgroup for all of you to see because after just glimpsing through the writings I see that this MEYER family surname as been seen spelled many different ways in different records but they are the MEYER family; also, not only were they in PA, but a branch headed for OH and several other's made their way to NC so I think we have a wide range of migration here. With that, here we go (in my own words to save my fingers and sanity). Pg 1-2 Entered according to an act of Congress 1890 by Henry MEYER in the office of Librarian of Congress, Wash. D.C. INDEX Preface Pg 5 Early History of the MEYER Settlementin PA Pg 9 John MEYER and Descendants Pg 22 Jacob MEYER and Descendants Pg 34 Christopher MEYER and Descendants Pg 89 Michael MEYER Pg 129 ** Apears he's the oldest, or next and he did not marry nor leave any children; died young. Conclusion Pg 130 PREFACE - This book was prepared for the author's own personal research, not for publication because he felt that his ancestry was never written and would someday be forgotten and from alot of encouragement from his MEYER descendants to place their knowledge of their kin and ancestor's into writing so that 200 years of family history would not leave this world with them. Many dates are approximate but considerable pains were taken to be as precise as possible. Some dates and lineage are long lost. Most of the material for this book was collected bet 1882 - 1883, some additons by Jan 1890 with more proper dates. He does not go past 5 generations for obvious reasons that the book and works would be to extensive. Credit is given to: Hon. Jacob G. MEYER - Aaronsburg, PA Maj.
