    1. [MOYERS] MOYERS - Cumberland Gap
    2. Chrystie Myers
    3. Suzie, That was a really interesting post! It looks like they probably came down into MO through the Cumberland Gap areas of old VA, now parts of WV/OH and even in through KY and or TN. I find more and more that many of our ancestor's took this old trail and there's alot of interesting sites online and many books written on the trails that our pioneer families used. When they landed here, from PA, NY, NJ, NC and even through the Great Lakes down into VA it seems they either headed westerly - into the OH area's and then went straight down south; from there it was anyone's guess and what land was up for grabs. Of course, many other's headed into the Carolina settlements, still later to head westerly through TN and across the Mississippi. And still other's remained or returned to PA. Pennsylvania must have reminded them of their old country homelands. Interesting... good posting Suzie! -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER

    2. Sorry. I did not mean to insult you. I made this suggestion based on another list that I am on where it seemed to work for them. If it doesn't work for your list that is fine with me. I just hope someone on this list can help me with my brickwalls--expecially Lauraschell Vanderpool. Womenfolk are almost impossible to find. Dianna

    2. Researching Parton's, Vanderpool's, and Clinton's of East Tennessee. Calvin Clinton and Lauraschell Vanderpool are my ggrandparents and I CANNOT break this wall down. She died around 1900 and there were two Calvin Clinton's in Sevier County during the latter part of the 1800's. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I will share what I have. I have posted census records for the Clinton's and helped other people in any way that I could, but have had very few people help me in my search. They seem to take what I have to offer and then run. I think this list might be different. Prove me correct. Dianna Christy, I suggest that you ask people to put their names and location in the subject line, rather than hitting the reply button. If they do not do that, at least remind them to put a broad geographic area for them. This would help us all. Dianna

    2. YOU Ask for it :>) Phillip MOYER (MYERS) family from Switzerland, had son Valentine Moyer (Myers) whom ma a Betsey Blessinger (Blesssing?) . All written in family bible. That is somewhere in Canada with kin. Valentine and Betsey had JOHN MYERS b 1809 near Harrisburg, PA .. written in bible JOHN MYERS is in PErry Co, old Cumberland Co. in 1830 ie, John MYERS marries Sarah Jane (ELizabeth) FOULKgrandaughter of JOHN FOLK of Berks Co dcd 1793., widow Mary Magdeline Strock Armstrong Folk moves to Cumberland to be with brother,(in letters) (some of her children stay in Greenwich, Berks Co area). She wanted near brother to raise younger children. I have picture of cemetery the FOLK FOULKS are buried in in Perry Co. I have data on the mill that JOHN MYERS owned accross the street from the FOLK FOULK residence. The footings are still there but mill is gone. Foulk house supposedly has FOULK kin still residing in it. I heard through grape vine. Wish they would write me. We seem very stuck on verifying Valentines connection to the Philip Moyer (MYERS in same area as FOULK.) IT is known some of family went to MD VA area when Valentine moved. OUR letters to sketchy and data so slim.. Valentine probably had a brother Henry. Both Philip and Valentine supposedly served REV WAR WAgon masters.. ?? JOHN and Sarah Jane moved to Troy Grove ILL and passed there. Children had reunion in 1886/7 . at Troy Grove. Family scattered everywhere after ILL, KS, IA, Minn, CAnada etc. I am from Sarah's family twice and John's line once. . Peter Foulk Sr son of John Folk and Mary was parent of Sarah Elizabeth or (Jane). John Myers and Sarah's dau Catherine Ann(Katie) m Wm H Foulk* my line. 3 Myers children m Foulk children.other names are NOSS< FLUHRER< FUNK <GEPHART< WYNN << SMELSER. all marriages I believe in ILL.? The Foulk side stopped in SOMERSET CO PA. William Henry FOULK born there son of Peter FOULK. I have five children, ten grandchildren and all in Ca til April then one is sprouting wings to MO .. single parent with five year old child. NO family near them there, needless to say family here is very concerned for Grandsons well being. Thinks as single income parent can survive better there. SusiCP in San Diego Ca.

    3. My MYERS, whom were at one time MAYER/MAJOR's were what I understand orginally from VA. And the MOYERS that my ancestors married into also at times dropped the "O" making them MYERS. I know that many of my gg's and ggg's children and cousins left Tennessee and migrated into OK, TX, MO and IL and even as far away as CA. I believe some might have migrated back into VA and possibly KY as well as WV and OH. They really liked to move around. I know that John and Pearl MYERS here on the board are in California. My ggg's youngest son, James Earl "Erly" MYERS and his wife Rachel Tennessee HEADRICK, both born in Sevier Co., TN migrated out to the Fresno are of CA. Wondering if anyone is connected. Other surnames connected to my MYERS of TN: OGLE HUSKEY MCCLURE ANTY/ANTHONY WHITE LINDSEY EMERT/EMMERT/EMMOTT ROBERTS WALKER and many many more of Sevier, Greene, Franklin, Blount, Jefferson, Scott and other counties of TN; Western NC; Northern GA Paternal Grandmother's people whom I don't spend enough time on include BRADSHAW GARRETT CHASTAIN SHOOK HOPER/HOOPER of NC TN and GA. Does your state, province, county, parish, or church have a database available that has not yet been placed on RootsWeb and that you think would be of interest to genealogists and historians? Do you have a database other than your personal family tree (personal genealogies are best posted at WorldConnect http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ ) that you would like to share that you think would be of value and interest to others? In most cases, RootsWeb would be proud to host them. Please use the data submission form to tell us about such databases: http://userdb.rootsweb.com/submit.html * * * WORLDCONNECT: First Names Only http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ Q. I have just completed Volume I of my family tree, which goes back to 1800. During my research I came across several slave names (first names only) and their slave master's name, who were in the same group of slaves as my ancestors. In 1850, these slaves were in Alabama but the history for many of them, as my ancestors, goes back to Virginia. How can I list these names in your database? Can I include my name as a reference? Also, I would like to include my ancestors who were born prior to 1865. A. How to show slave names in RootsWeb's WorldConnect family tree program where there is only a given name and no surname largely depends on the genealogy software program you are using. For example, Family Tree Maker uses a double slash \\ following the given name to reflect the fact that there is no last name. Consult the manual or help file for your genealogy program for the suggested method for the program if you are using a program other than Family Tree Maker. You would then use your Notes to give any other information you like, such as your name and the slave master information. When you create a GEDCOM, the GEDCOM includes the data exactly as shown in your genealogy file. WorldConnect in turn displays the data found in the GEDCOM. See RootsWeb Guide 3, Using Technology: Software and GEDCOMs at http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson3.htm and RootsWeb Guide 25: African American, Native American, etc. at http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson25.htm * * * SOCIAL SECURITY DEATH INDEX (SSDI) http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/ Q. In the SSDI, what do the codes in the "Last Residence" box represent? A. Most of the codes in the "Last Residence" box represent locations and are listed as: 94590 (Vallejo, Solano, CA) or (Virginia). Occasionally you will find codes such as: (72), (FO), (PE), (VA), and (HC) that do not represent locations. These codes are included exactly as received from the Social Security Administration. They are internal agency codes and of no significance to genealogical researchers. For additional information about the SSDI, see: http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson10.htm http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help/ssdi.html * * * Chrystie MYERS - List Administrator BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chrystiem/myersfam.html
