    3. Quoting your message below so we don't lose track of conversations. Awwwhaaa! Ok, I have about 4 books on Highland Ohio, Randolph, Tyler, Wetzel ans several other counties including Pendleton Counties of WV, once part of OH and VA. There waw a group of MOYERS and MYERS that were in what was OH, (don't get confused here) but other areas of WV that were once VA and parts there were once OH and vice versa. These MYERS and MOYERS married into alot of older clans dating back to the 1700-1800's and I"ll name off just a few of many surnames that connected with them, some of them married into my maternal grandmother's parents side, as well as my maternal grandfather's side to. Most if not all were from PA, migrating into OH and WV - once VA. Surnames (just to name a few): ARBOGAST ANDERSON ALLEN LOGAN HOGAN WIMER STEWART LEMLEY SIMMONS/SEIMONDS WAYBRIGHT BROOKOVER COWGER ( I could go on and on). Matter of fact, I'll get the books out and post the surnames. I use to post these MYERS and MOYERS 2 yrs back out here and it's high time I post them again. I'll be back shortly with the names. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER > > Chrystie, > I have no idea? where they came from orginally, I'm just breaking thru this > 12 yr brick wall, all I knew 1 yr ago was the my Henryb: 1786 > lived in Whitley Co.In, and had md in Montgomery Co OH to Mary Wirick > I do think they are German though, and I think they may have been from > Lancaster Co PA first, why?.....Sharon > >

    3. I have not posted for a while, so here goes again. I am searching for the parents and siblings of John Moyers/Myers who married Catherine Couch in Greene Co,m TN 16 Aug., 1789. I do not know where he was before he shows up in Greene Co. The Greene Co. book refers to him as John Myers Esq. of Pennsylvania. All the records I have of him are as John Myers, but his marriage record lists him as John Moyers. I used to think that that was just a variation in spelling, but now I am inclined to thin he went by John Moyers before coming into Tn. I don't know when or where he was born, but he died in 1835 in Greene Co. His oldest daughter Catherine m. Reuben West. He also had children: Peter, Susannah, Barbara, Elizabeth, Mary (Polly), Christopher (my ancestor), and Jacob. Christopher married Arpy Manes and Susanna and Mary Polly both married Manes boys. Am hoping someone can give me some clues or steer me in the right direction. Betty

    3. the gay family is found in the channel islands after the norman conquest. they located later in kent and devon. the gays were shown in the visitations of kent in 1674...pg. 53. their arms were "gules crusily or 3 lions rampant argent." vivian's "devon" pg 392 has a large chart of this family with arms or, on a fesse sable between three escollops azure, six losenges enjoined argent." then it starts with henry gay first of his family in virginia was a headright of james long who patented 300 acres on the western branch of the nansemond river in nansemond county, feb. 8, 1663 for the transportation of six persons among whom was henry gay (c.p. 492). there was a vast trade in headrights. some of the most prominent people in virginia sold their own headrights. the nansemond county records were destroyed so we are to rely upon records of adjacent counties for information. will skip some right know....because i am going to xerox this in the morning and send it to you. they say that these are mine and they are "the gay family of isle of wight, north carolina and georgia." this is the only article that i have ever found except for all of the wills etc and i have a number of those that i will send you. don't spend a lot of time as i know you are working feverishly on the moyers. i found this article in historical southern families, volume ii by john bennett bodie...usa. gen. 975 b 666. in nash county n.c. (bass families of the south) feb. session 1809. the undersigned commissioners met to survey and divide the land which john gay died, seized and possessed of between the heirs of said descendent according to the following plans: no. 1 allotted to bethany bass (including the houses) containing thirty three and a halaf acres according to the plan. no. 2. elias gay no. 3. josiah gay no. 4. mills gay (n.b.-deed book 11, p. 164 shows mills bay of wilson county tenn., 11 may 1824) no. 5. jordon gay no. 6. elizabeth gay no. 7. willis gay no. 8 james gay no. 9 john gay no 10-mourning gay no. 11-nancy hunt, containing thirty three and a half acres according to the plan. no 1. allotted to betheny bass 33 1/2 acres valued at $250.00 no 11 allotted to nancy hunt 33 1/2 acres valued to $24.75. this was found in bass familes of the south. bethany gay bass is my ancestor. as a matter of fact she is my great, great grandmother. i have not been able to get any farther back than this. if i don't get senior moments...giggle...will try and get that off to you tomorrow. please send me our address again, am not sure that i can find it since my computer was wiped out, that is all gone and is where your address was. thanks christy....many blessings, helen.

    1. [MOYERS] Christian MOYER/MEYER/MYERS
    2. Chrystie Myers
    3. Ok, now this did hit me. I'm doing some research for another out here regarding the infamous Casper MYERS, seen in alot of documentation here in Maryland (old Frederick/Carroll Co. VA - now MD areas) as MIER/MEIR/MEYER/MOYER and MYERS. He bought a tremendous amount of land in and around Frederick, city of Frederick, MYERSVILLE/MYERSTOWN (2 seperate cities but within 10 miles of each on old Rt 40 heading from Frederick into PA). He owned so much land that no matter what records I'm looking into his name and records connected to him just keep popping up no matter whom I'm researching. If anyone is alined with him, and they say I am, it's a jackpot of information. He had a son named Henry Christian and I might add that the family name was originally MAYER ca1700's - and MAJER/MAJOR ca15-1600's from Switzerland. I know they handed down their first names but I've never seen another Casper, only a Gasper - whom I believe is one and the same. Casper's 2nd cousin whom migrated later into MD also had sons with the names Henry, John (Johanna), John Henry, Christian Henry, Johanna Christian, Johanna Henry, etc... several migrated into PA where they stayed. Some headed into what was VA, later OH/WV. One or two headed for the Carolina's, one went back to Switz. and still a female married and headed for Austrailia. Now, I do remember there were alot of the same wife first names and one of them was "Margaret" or "Margaretta", "Catherine Margaret" and Elizabeth and I agree, they really liked to use the same names over and over again but the names Henry and Christian are forever in my sight. Next time I'm in Westminster MD I'll look those names up again; great genealogy source library for PA/MD history. 3. Hi Sharon. Were you the one that I was going to look up some information for on Christian Myers in the book that A.J. Fretz wrote. If so, I apologize for the long delay. I inadvertently deleted the e-mail of the person who requested that, and now I don't have the name of the person who wanted it or who they wanted it on! I hope you are the person! If so, please let me know once more the birth date of your Christian, and the name of his wife that you are looking for. -----Original Message----- From: Sharon Roach <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, February 18, 2001 12:15 AM Subject: Re: [MOYERS] ROLL CALL TIME! >Hello Grp, >I have just gotten confirmation(Proof positive) as to my Henry Moyer/Myers >b: 1786 PA. being the son of Christian MOYER/MYERS etc.+ >Margareth (UNK)....and am waiting for the Will of John MOYER died 1793 >of Bethel Twp. 3. THE PISGAH BOOK 1784 - 1909 at http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/files.html THE PISGAH BOOK 1784 - 1909 By W. O. SHEWMAKER Pastor of Pisgah Church at Pisgah, Woodford County, Kentucky This executable requires Windows, or you can download a viewer for UNIX or the Mac from http://www.hummingbird.com/cg Double clicking on the executable launches a Common Ground viewer which will bring up the Digital Paper file containing the book. The executable takes 1.5MB including viewer and book. This book is a history of Pisagh church written in 1909 by the Pastor of Pisgah at that time. It includes a roster of members from 1808-1909 which has been indexed alphabetically. Good early history of Woodford County, KY. Talks a lot about the first families to start the church (and Woodford Co) including STEVENSON, GAY, McILVAIN. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER
