LOL the FOULK line, I know I have not forgotten you. And by the way, I found FOULK'S in Greene and Jefferson Co., TN; some of the very first settlers of that area ca1783. Also, there was someone out here researching his MOYERS/PATTON lines from same area; I also just last night found in one of my TN history books that the PATTON family also was on the first "tax list" as well as having an important part with the legislation's during this era in Jefferson / Greene Co., Tn stating they came in throu Washington Co., TN. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER

Nancy, I'm so glad you responded and seen "unusual" points regarding this. I was beiginning to think it was me. I too see oddities here. 1 - Would Suzannah MOYERS have been 43 years of age - giving birth to James Napoleon when (if we go according to history) Enoch was already long gone if not deceased? Enoch WILLOUGHBY was tossed out of town during a period when the "Presbyterians" were splitting with their views; during this era these folks were "staunch" believer's of their faith. I did alot of "reading up" on this event. It occured before James N. was even thought about. Maybe Susan kept her family name, shamed by Enoch WILLOUGHBY and his "hot" serman. He was run out of town, leaving her and children behind but I have a problem with the ages and timeframes here. 2 - I backed-up my reading last night for the ump-teenth time and during the "era" below the area of White Pine was Jefferson County, TN and there were only Baptist (Primitive in nature such as Circuit Riders) and Presbyterians' (Rev. Gideon BLACKBURN, etc.) in the area; not Methodist. As well, the bottom tipe-end of Washington County, TN was also split off and made into Greene Co., TN. Sevier County TN came off of Jefferson and all of this occured in 1783 or 93 (read this last night). Wash., Greene Counties were part of North Caroline up until this time and it was NC that handed over this land back to TN. When this occured, the Quakers rolled over the Smoky Mtns. to east TN. One such Quaker family was HAYWORTH'S, of which Noah HAYWORTH, son of one of them mtn migrator's married James Napoleon's wife Margaret C. LINDSEY, after his death in 1894, not before as the letter stated, another descrepancy. 3 - James shows up in (if it's even him) in 1840 Census Jefferson Co., TN as below: Susan MOYERS age 30-40 Clary age 10 Mary E. age 6 James age 1 1850 Census Jefferson Co., TN Susan MYERS age 42 Clary age 19 Mary E. age 16 James age 11 They had a woman named Rhoda living with them in 1840 and she is listed as "Black" and under last name it says NS which I assume means "Negro Slave". That kinda blew-me away because I knew that the majority of TN'S were against slavery and enjoyed and respected their fellow brothers. Also, in the household next to them were a huge black group of various ages that I believe were they're slaves, though they could have been neighbors, the ages are odd to be husband/wife/children. This Susan MOYERS/MYERS didn't live near any of the other MOYERS in the Jefferson Co., TN area; though the rest lived very near one another. 4 - The MOYERS of Jefferson Co., TN were from VA and Germany, so PA confuses me too but, here's what I found on my own. 1880 Census for Sevier Co., TN 6th District shows: James Napoleon MYERS age 41 Margarett age 34 And 8 of the 11 children (last 3 not born yet). Living right up the road is in the 1880 and 1900 Census: John A. MYERS b. April 1828 in TN age 74 Father b. in PA Mother b. in Ireland Wife Nancy b. December 1825 in Boone Co., WVA (old VA) age 74 And the dau I speak of, Mary Jane was m. to Samuel CHAMBER'S brother Andrew "Andy" CHAMBERS! Also, wife Nancy, according to my research was Nancy MILLER, not Nancy GANN. So, is there another James A. MYERS in the same area; same era whom just happens to be married to a Nancy, just like John Alexander MOYERS/MYERS and they both have a daughter married to the same CHAMBERS family? Possibly - yet, probably - maybe yes, maybe not. 5 - I have this John A. MYERS as the son of Steven MYERS b Sep 1798 Wash. Co., PA d Jan 1888 in Stow, OH and Rebecca WALKER b 1797 Georgetown, Hancock Co., VA d. 1879 in Stow, Oh. 6 - John Alexander MOYERS/MYERS wasn't buried in Little Cove Cemetery (old Holly Springs Primitive Baptist Church) in Wears Valley area, was he? Not according to my records. I think they're are (2) families here. And though I find it extremely remarkable that James Napoleon MYERS's children such as Daniel Ray "Mack" MYERS, Andrew Jackson (Big Andy) MYERS as well as my gg Plessie MYERS and his wife Sara Jane MCCLURE are all living nextdoor and accross the road from this John A. MYERS age 74 1900 census Sevier Co., TN and James Napoleon is buried next to him in Little Cove - I believe this confusion is this. Susan MOYERS, later seen as MYERS might not be Suzannah MOYERS, dau o f James David MOYERS and Mary Polly BLACKBURN but another from this Steven MYERS and John A. The MOYERS of Jefferson were Presbyterian; James Napoleon was a Baptist minister of Holly Springs Primitive Baptist Church; a Cuicut Rider; he deeded his land to this church and is buried there. Not Jefferson County where he had ties; not Presbyterian, remembering the staunch belivers. And, if James was truly the James in the 1830 census living with the MOYERS' Susan - was he an "orphan" possiby or from a off branched extension of this line? I wish I could hop a plane, train, etc.. and get down there a break this wall once and for all. If for no other reason, to know who I am. A WILLOUGHBY, a MOYERS, a MYERS, maybe an Alien from Mars. --- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER > From: [email protected] > Reply-To: [email protected] > Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2001 22:25:15 EST > To: [email protected] > Subject: [MOYERS] James Napoleon MYERS > Resent-From: [email protected] > Resent-Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2001 20:25:21 -0700 > > Chrystie, > I believe I can help you a little with your James Napoleon MYERS. > > Moyer/Myers lineage- > 1.George & Anna Barbara Majer/Mayer/Moyer 1717 Germanna Va. immigrants > 2.Christopher Moyer wf. Hi all, my Myers family started in Pa, went to Rockingham Virginia, and then migrated to Indiana. I haven't been able to find out if they actually lived in Ohio before they moved on to Indiana. I wouldn't be surprized though. Christian Myers and Barbara Richards moved to Virginia and had several children. Their last child was Levi C. Myers, b. about 1813 in Rockingham Co. VA. Levi married Eleanor Tolls/Towles. Levi and Eleanor were the ones that moved on into Indiana. According to an Indiana census record (1850 or 1860), one of their children, was born in Ohio. So far, I haven't found the proof or the county where they were supposedly born. Anybody else have this family? Hi all, I'm so excited I had to share this with everyone. My ggg, as I stated before, James Napoleon MYERS b. Apr 1839 (TN) has been the biggest mystery to so many researchers on this line, including me. I'v got Napoleon on the brain! Well, Sevierville County Courthouse is no online and taking orders freely over the internet - thank god I no longer have to write to them. I also spoke with a Donna Allen in Sevierville around X-mas time, a true genealogist/historian of the area and a direct descendant of John A. MYERS, son of Dr. Christopher MOYERS of Jefferson Co., TN. She is adament that James Napoleon was the son of Suzannah MOYERS, Dr. Christopher's sister; both children of James David MOYERS and Mary Polly BLACKBURN. But I'm a little confused. I know you guys can figure this out for me. So here's what they just wrote to me. My question to all of you is this: Is the below mentioned John A. MYERS, once a MOYERS of White Pine John Alexander "JR." ? son of John A. MOYERS and Nancy GANN? I swear I found a Nancy and John in the 1900 census Sevier Co., TN aged abt 72/74 yrs of age appears with their dau living with them under the name CHAMBERS with children. I'm trying to figure this out. I thought that John Alexander MOYERS was the son of Dr. Christopher MOYERS of White Pine? Any takers? Hello, In answer to your reference question of 3-13-01 the following was found James Napoleon Myers shows up her in 1880 census in Sevier County we know very little on him other than He is buried in Little Cove church along with John A. Myers the family has always said that John A. and James Napoleon are 1st cousins but this is only here say. It is good here say though Donna Allen who is designed from John A. has a ledger that John's father kept it explains that the family changed the name from Moyers to Myers to anglicize the name. John A. states that his father came from PA and his mother from Ireland his father John was a Lutheran Minister in the White Pine Community in what is now Hamblin County the ledger that I spoke of came from him, it tells of the families track down from PA to the Tennessee area. As fare as we can peace things together Rev. John and his brother (Unknown) came to East Tennessee together and settled in the Wataga area of Greene Co. Tennessee there John A. and James Napoleon were born. I am giving you Donna Allen address and Phone number who is off John A. May be she can shed some light on the tree. Donna Allen 1045 Pine Mountain Rd. Suzie and all, Shew, I have my dad.. who's a MYERS - GA, TN, VA, PA. My dad's side married into MOYERS of TN, VA. Both sides of the MYERS/MOYERS married as well, into MYERS. Some of the MOYERS took the "O" out becoming MYERS. My mom's side - PA, VA, WV, OH, MD. My great grandmother's people, the THOMAS'S BROOKOVER'S married into MYERS in OH and WV, with ties from PA. Her husband, my great grandfather's people also married into MYERS from a totally different area of WV, but with OH and PA ties. My mom's father, my late grandfather's people, the SIMMONS ARBOGAST ANDERSON'S and many other related surnames also married into MYERS in WV, old VA, OH. My MYERS of Sevier Co., TN married into the MYERS from Blount Co., TN - people have been arguing over their ties for centuries... I can only say that it's assumable that if many MYERS m. MYERS from both counties time and time again over the centuries... well, somehow the blood mixed one way or the other making their descendants - MYERS, still with me here? Everytime I re-research into one of my many surnames, both paternal and maternal (especially my maternal - remembering that that's not where I got my name MYERS) I find over and over again more MYERS. I guess that makes me a real MYERS, but, my ggg James Napoleon MYERS is reportedly a WILLOUGHBY. Susie and MOYERS gang, I'm still out here and will let everyone know when I'm official unconnecting to move - in the middle of packing, repairing home from inspection writeup (not too bad but still... find someone with a 40 foot ladder to do a little work for under 500); planning, letting go of "things" that I've had for eons - that's the hardiest part because I keep thinking, well... thou I've not used this in years, someday I might need it. I think the word my friends use is "rat packer". And all of the things I've gotten at flea markets over the years that at the time were so "neat" now... time to let go of them. Funny how we attach ourselves to the darndest things. Now my books, if they're genealogy, history, geography related, forget it. They're coming with me!
