Hi MOYERS! 3 weeks folks! I just got the news! I'm so thrilled... I can't wait to move! Only thing I have to worry about now is: a) getting all my "stuff" over there and turning everything off/on b) packing a) c) unpacking a) d) getting my 110 pound doggie to get along with new neighbor's 80 poundier - yikes! e) remembering new address f) planning a trip to Jefferson/Sevier TN! And maybe hitting old Texas to meet some of ya all! g) most importantly - getting cats over there - hardiest job of all. Computer and files ride with me, not letting movers touch them...;) Will keep you all posted. Wish me luck.... will be glad when it's all over. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER

Literate women often kept diaries in the 1800s. I know that some of my ancestors lived in and around Fayette, Mississippi between 1850-75 and was delighted to discover a typewritten copy of Susan Sillers Darden's diary, which is in the Mississippi State Archives. It is filled with information about the Stampleys and Dunbars, and includes many interesting comments about my great, great grandparents and the lives they led. Chrystie, I have long been afraid of this kind of abuse. That is why I have never sent a Gedcom of my stuff anywhere! Of course cousins to whom I have furnished info could send it in. I have asked them not to do that, but don't know if they might have passed it on to another cousin who sends it wherever. I know that the Familytree maker CDs use people's info and then distort it to make it more difficult by taking out real dates and using dates with such a wide spred of years they are worthless. I will never stop being angry about finding that out from another cousin. I am sorry you have been burned like that. I know many people have been. Throughout the 18th century the "Shenandoah Valley" and it's neighboring waterways constituted for the Scotch-Irish to make their way from PA into KY and TN as did the Canadian French using the St. Lawrence Valley and the New York Dutch using the Hudson Valley. The Pennsylvania pioneers traveled down old Route 11, once an Indian Trail, later a wagontrail down a 400 miles stretch into TN, the Smoky Mtns and the Carolina's in search of a better way of life for various reasons. Eveb Rt. 66 crosses old Rt. 40 in Maryland just minutes from the PA border, a road I'm sure many have heard of and a very old historical road at that which is why so many fight to keep Rt 66 as it is. By tracking these routes, especially the Cumberland Valley area where many old Indian trails are still used today - now seen in more updated roads, we can learn more about the hows, who's, what's and when our ancestors' migrated and why. Many southerns migrated from VA, WV, MD, the Carolina's, NJ, NY and PA and as far away as Canada, and though from PA and old VA would still return to the northern areas of America to attend college; visit family; they used those wagon's and coaches alot more then we assumed they did. Matter of fact, the more I read on "migration patterns" within old America, our ancestors' moved around this country alot more then we do these days. My point is, don't have a closed-mind in pinpointing one particular area; they didn't always stay in just one place. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER
Linda and all, We have to be very careful out here regarding the "gedcom" file issues. I too, not knowing any better, hurrily placed my gedcom's out here assuming it would help me (at the very least) connect with other's on my line. It did and for that I'm eternally thankful but... and I stress but.. I've had everyone of my gedcom's taken off especially that Dave Wilkes site; I've been asking him for 2 yrs to please, take my gedcom off of your site - it's riddled with errors and he always writes back and says yes I'll take it off, but it's still out there today. Sadly, FamilyTree Maker and Genealogy.com are selling our family files on Cd's. Sad... because they have errors in them and other's, not knowing any better will buy these and the lienage will be wrong across the board for who knows how many more generations. What can you do Linda? Next to threatening them. Obviously, these companies know that "genealogy" is big business out here; we're out here trying to help one another "freely" and someone is always skeeming to make money on us. I learned the hardway. But boy when I think about it my hair stands up on my arms;) -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER
from another maillist............ from the Biographical History of Lancaster County, PA published 1872: MYERS, Frederick, elected Sheriff of Lancaster county in 1869 MYERS, James, is a leading citizen and iron-master of Lancaster county, and widely reputed for his benevolence and Christian charities.
