George Moyer's first land grant of 400 acres and the above families lived on White Oak Run ( originally called Island Run) a branch of the Robinson River. ( Both of George Moyer's land grants are in what is today Madison Co. Va.) Since neighbors of these early German settlers were relatives or in-laws, I am now working to determine the relationship between the Yager, Keiffer,Harnsberger, Broyles and Rouse families with that of George and Anna Barbara Moyer. George Moyer's other land grant of 498 acres was located on Deep Run, a branch of the Robinson River. His neighbor's there were , George & Anna Barbara Mayer [Volck] Utz, Peter Weber and Matthias Castler. I would appreciate any information from other George Moyer ( 1717 Va. Colonist) researchers who might know of some of these relationships. Thank you, Nancy Moyers Dodge

    3. Chrystie, Helen, I have more information on the early history of these Presbyterians in Tennessee (and VA) if you are interested. Rev. Samuel Doak's cousin, Ann Doak may be my gggg grandfather Moses Lindsey Sr.'s mother-in-law, making her my ggggg grandmother. Anyway, that's part of the info I am supposed to be sending you later about the Lindsey-Myers connections in Washington Co. VA. (Don't make the mistake I did once and confuse the Washington Counties in TN and VA). They are different, but these same Presbyterians show up in both places. They didn't stay put. Really got to go to work. 3. THIRTY FIVE YEARS AGO WHEN I STARTED TO LEARN HOW TO RESEARCH, THERE WERE TWO THINGS THAT I LEARNED THE FIRST DAY. JUN AND JNO AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT EITHER ONE OF THEM STOOD FOR. THEY TOLD ME THAT JUN STOOD FOR JUNIOR AND THAT JNO STOOD FOR JOHN. I COULD UNDERSTAND THE JUN FOR JUNIOR BUT COULD NOT FIGURE WHY NOT USE JR. AS I HAD SEEN IT WRITTEN. ALSO, I HAD A COUSIN NAMED JOHN HERSCHEL AND I HAD NEVER SEEN HIS NAME AS JNO BUT WHEN I ASKED MY AUNT, SHE SAID YES, I WRITE JNO FOR JOHN ALL THE TIME IN LETTERS. IF THAT HELPS, BUT AGAIN JR. WAS WHAT IT MEANT WHEN I WENT TO SCHOOL BUT SHE SAID NO, JUN WAS FOR JUNIOR LONG TIME AGO. THANKS FOR THE INFO ON MATTHEW....I JUST COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING TO AMOUNT TO ANYTHING..WILL PULL OUR MY MATTHEW FAMILY FILE AND SEE ABOUT THE WILL OR ESTATE THING THAT I HAVE. APPRECIATE THIS INFO SO VERY MUCH....THANKS AND MANY BLESSINGS OF THE DAY. HELEN.

NOW WHETHER THAT IS WHAT IS MEANT BY THIS WRITER WOULD ONLY BE A GUESS. THANKS A BUNCH FOR FINDING MY MATTHEW. I DO NOT HAVE THAT ONE. I HAVE WHERE HIS DAUGHTER WAS THE EXECUTRIX OF HIS WILL.....IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY AND I THINK I FOUND THAT HERE IN TYLER....WHAT A SHOCK TO FIND SOMETHING HERE. THEY HAVE SO FEW BOOKS..JIM, A COUSIN AND I WENT TO THE DALLAS LIBRARY AND THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED WAS THAT LINDA WAS VERY LUCKY AND FOUND SOME THINGS AND WAS PLEASED ABOUT THAT AS THIS WAS HER FIRST REAL FIND. SHE HAS JUST STARTED RESEARCHING AND IS A GOOD STUDENT. I HAVE BEEN SENDING HER SOME OF THE THINGS YOU HAVE SENT ME. BUT THE BEST THING WAS THAT WE VISITED OUR OLD FRIEND AND NEIGHBOR AND WE TOOK HER OUT FOR PIZZA. I HAD NEVER HAD ONE LIKE IT....AN ARTICHOKE PIZZA. YOU HAVEN'T LIVED UNTIL YOU HAVE ONE OF THOSE. WE GOT ONE BIG ONE AND IT WAS ENOUGH (WITH SOME LEFT OVER) FOR FOUR PEOPLE FOR 17.95. THE ONLY PLACE I KNOW OF IS IN OAK CLIFF IN DALLAS. YOU CAN PUT MONEY ON IT...WE WILL BE BACK. EVERYONE HAS TO LIVE DANGEROUSLY NOW AND THEN. LOVE, HUGS AND BLESSINGS TO ALL, HELEN.

    3. Nancy, How have you been? Haven't heard from you in awhile. I wrote earlier about the MAYER line and yes they did spell their name as MAJER in the Palatines / Germany. It's seen as MAYER MAHER MIER and MEYER in Maryland records here where I'm at; and as MOYER in PA (alot of PA records are in MD). I think you might have misunderstood my postings or I "typo-ed". George did travel to PA; as court records show; but he returns to VA where his son Michael and Christopher were. And yes, Michael does show-up in Rowan Co., NC where he marries (her name sits in the other room in a few books I have lying around). But, what I've read, less I'm mistaken - (it was very late last night when I had the "hankering" to read them) was that George was part of the 2nd migration of colonist / 1717 and not 1714 (1st Colony). Also, a genealogist/historian on my MYERS / MOYERS line (a direct cousin) in TN whom I spoke with in great detail this past x-mas, as well as the head genealogist/librarian from same area, also stated that her/his research in TN/VA shows that Geo. was part of the ship that "wrecked" enroute to America, forcing them to land in VA; they were suppose to land elsewhere - records are not in front of me but if my memory serves me it might have been PA. That his name was spelled as MAYER upon arrival but most if not all were probably MAJER as "J" was used differently in Europe, as opposed to English (language writings) hence the difference in spelling once landing in the Americas. In other old court records (un-indexed copies) that I have here (hate when it's not indexed) Michael shows up in a court cases (he's named, at least) after his marriage in NC. So, I assumed he at least re-visited for these occasions. I was not aware that he returned to NC though I do believe I read somewhere that his wife's family was in NC and that makes sense to me. I'll have to read more on this. Migration and German colonies seems to be my latest interest. Christopher's son does make his way down to Greene Co., Tn though. Do your records show this? Curious... what areas of research did you find your information. I'll look for the source next time I hit the library. Thanks Nancy and nice hearing from you again. Glad you're still here. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER > From: [email protected] > Reply-To: [email protected] > Date: Mon, 9 Apr 2001 20:14:13 EDT > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [MOYERS] Re:Myers in Rockingham Co. 2. Chrystie Myes
    3. Bobbye, I was reading just last night on Geo. MAYER/MOYER/MYERS of the 2nd Germanna Colony in VA; he actually left that area and suddenly appears in PA where he was literally involved in some sort of revolt, I believe the words were "public disturbance". Again, he's back in VA fighting a man in court whom took over a dec'd man's indentured papers on him. Poor George. This was after his ship wrecked and he lost all of his money before leaving Europe. Later, his son Michael appears in Rowan Co., NC where he marries, but a year later is back with his brother Christopher and father George in VA again! I read that it might take a family or group 6 months to travel from PA to GA. And they'd stay for a month or so and head back again - during the winter months! To get a good understanding on how our ancestors' earned the word "pioneers" read about SEVIER, whom Sevier Co., TN was named after. He hopped all around, from PA, to the old Mississippi Territories (now TN/GA); as well as David CROCKETT and Daniel BOONE. These guys traveled along Indians and bufallo trails risking their lives and probably enjoyed it - and they did this on foot, lucky if they had a mule must less a horse. And a wagon sometimes couldn't make the paths. Amazing. But it lends you a more "open mind" and might help you to sort out the if's and how's on Jacob. And I have a breakdown if my car won't start for a day. At least we have tow trucks to come to our aide. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER > Chrystie, > > YES. 1. Re: [MOYERS] Where are your MOYER(S) from?
    2. Chrystie Myes
    3. Hi Debbie Graviett and welcome to the MOYERS group! First off, I want to be the first to welcome you to the MOYERS Newsgroup where we all have one thing in common - trying to untangle our ancestry roots. You're line (below) looks alot like many of our groups; it seems that either the MOYER(S) started out in PA or VA. That's one for certain. After that, they really broke loose into VA/WV - OH - KY and NC - TN - GA - MO - ILL (TX and CA too)! I've seen alot on Berks Co., PA as well as Washington, Lancaster, York and Lebanon Counties of PA; actually, I've also read, more times then I care to admit, that at one time most of PA was filled to the brim with MYERS MIER(S) MOYER(S) MAYER(S) and MEYER(S). I list the spelling as such since (speaking for myself as well as many others) my MYERS surname has been seen spelled at least that many different ways, sometimes on just one document. Your line also shows a typical migration pattern for many that began in PA. They usually took the western route through old VA, now parts of WV, throu NC and westerly again thru TN to MO, ILL, KY and OH. We've all got a John MOYER(S) in our lineage, as you'll find alot of Jacob's too (Bobbye will enjoy that one). I can't say I've seen the name CONTIR yet, but I have heard of the Gophenheimer church as well as seeing the surname COTNER. Have you seen it spelled in any other way, such as CONTER or KOTNER, the latter being an old German/PA name. In the Westminster area of Maryland, not too far from PA the library holds alot of good old PA MOYERS/MEYERS/MYERS records. I've gotta get up there again. Again, welcome aboard and I hope one of us can help you connect. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER > > Christie and all, > My name is Debbie Moyer Graviett and my line starts with John Moyers and > Esther Contir that were married in Gophenheimer Church? in Berks Co.
