i have a cousin that is a dowdy. if you would like his e mail, will send it to you. there is another one that is cooper/dowdy and she has some type of print out i believe, but not sure. her address is [email protected] she is from alabama. all of my clicks married myers. they were texans. my alabama line were terrell girls that married all alabama men. is that what you were referring to? BLESSINGS, HELEN.
Helen, I left that a little blank. Jacob Myers and his son Abraham migrated from Pennsylvania>Virginia>Carolinas>Jackson County, Georgia where Jacob died. Abraham and his family migrated on to Alabama where he settled and died around 1849. Some of Abraham's children and some of his nieces and nephews migrated on to Texas, some before and some after the Civil War. Some names of Myers' wives were Cox, Densmore, and Dowdy.
Helen, A bunch of Myers went to Texas after the Civil War, and some before. I know that some of them got as far as Floydada in west Texas. Some settle in east Texas and I just don't know where some of the others settled, Cherokee, Anderson, and Young Counties just to name a few. The all descended from Jacob Myers, some were Abraham Myers grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bobbye
Helen, Whoa!!! Where did those Alabama marriages take place. Were they Myers marriages? Bobbye
ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE CLICKS THAT MARRIED MYERS. NO MAM. THEY ARE TEXAS MARRIAGES. BLESSINGS, HELEN.
Helen You hve GRIZZLE?? Susi

Katie and group, As I started typing a bit more to the book I"m uploading (as I go) on the "History of the Baptists of TN" dating back to the 1700's I was amazed to just type about these Baptists and how they left North Carolina and regrouped (families of over 600+) into the wilderness of "Washington Co., TN". I'm just getting started on this book, will get it up as fast as I can. If you want to start reading it, it's at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chrystiem/myersfam.html Look under NEW and it should be the 2nd link in the row. Also, look part way down in the list of links and you'll see the MEYER BOOK which I updated lastnight. Just found the Wash. CO., TN interesting ... -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER
Oh mi gosh... sounds like another interesting coincidence. I am wondering about the PA connections too. I think I also missed the discussion of the GAY family. My great grandmother, Emogene GAY was born in Meshoppen, Wyoming Co. PA in 1850 and she married a widower farmer from Iowa, James Alexander LINDSEY, whose first wife died shortly after the birth of their son. James was born in Johnson Co. TN 1850 grandson of the Catharine MYERS m. Moses LINDSEY. He ended up in Iowa because of the Civil War, and his parents luckily fled the border warfare which was gruesome in Johnson County TN. Question is, how did a school teacher from PA end up marrying a hillbilly born in TN and living in Iowa? One family story says the old maid school teacher from PA answered a personal ad in the newspaper for a wife because she didn't want to die an old maid. The other family story says they were introduced by mutual friends. What was the connection of friends PA to TN???? Also I am also researching the GAY family (Scots-Irish origin), so am interested in what you got on them. I have some, not thoroughly researched on the Wyoming Co. PA GAY's.... still is one living there now on the old farm. Hi Gary, Is this your line? How much is your book? Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: Gary E. Brewer <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 09, 2001 4:40 AM Subject: [MOYERS] MOYERS/MYERS book > In circa 1783 Christopher Moyers, Junior, a Revolutionary War veteran, moved to what later became White Pine, Jefferson County, Tennessee and settled on Long Creek. Helen, I'm seeing alot of MATTHEWS and GAY'S in the PA / VA areas. You might want to concentrate your efforts in those states, for a start. Both names are in the Cambria County area of PA; where I research my late husband's line. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER
I have a large pile of copied papers from the Nat'l Archives. My poor aunt copied over 1000+ pages from an old book on wills; court proceedings from Tazwell and Rockingham Co., VA. No Index. So, I sift through endlessly til my eyes are bulging out! I also have very old books on Annals of Tazwell VA. My aunt got it as a birthday present in 1978 from her late brother. It's in 2 volumes pub. 1922. Below is a small portion of what I have found. Pg. 233 Ashby - MAYERS, Ashby Co. K 45th VA Infantry Roster Pg. 242 Vol. II - MYERS, A. J. Co. F, 16 VA Cavalry Pg. 580 Lineage on the MUSTARD family with a Alexander MYERS married into this line. If anyone wishes to see it just let me know. Pg. 13 Vol. II - Amy MYERS 1854 was suppose to m. John ODELL on Oct 19 - sows certificates of Marriages irregularly returned. same as above records pg. 34 Andrew J. MYERS and Sarah A. HAVENS on Mar 12, 1866 More to follow.... gotta meet w/family. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER
KATIE, I INTENDED TO TELL YOU THAT WHEN I CAN'T FIND ANY OF MY FAMILY, THERE ARE THREE PLACES THAT I START...THE QUAKERS, AND IF YOU HAVE PEOPLE IN ALABAMA, TENNESSEE AND GEORGIA, THE BEST PLACE TO LOOK IF YOU CAN'T FIND THEM ON THE CENSUS IS FLORIDA. I FINALLY LEARNED THAT MY SIMS LINE WAS FOUND IN FLORIDA AND WAS TOLD THAT IF THEY LIVED IN ALABAMA, GEORGIA OR TENNESSEE, THEY WERE SENT DOWN TO FLORIDA TO FIGHT IN THE INDIAN CREEK WAR. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD THROW THAT IN, FOR MANY PEOPLE NEVER THINK TO LOOK THERE....THEY HAVE A LOT THAT YOU POSSIBLY COULD BE MISSING. BLESSINGS, HELEN.
DEAR KATIE: YES, I AM REALLY INTERESTED IN THE GAY/MATTHEW LINES. THESE ARE TWO LINES THAT I HAVE NOT REALLY DONE MUCH RESEARCH ON. I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF TIME ON BOTH BUT NOTHING VERY PRODUCTIVE. IF YOU KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT THE MATTHEW/GAY LINES, YES, I AM INTERESTED. THANKS FOR ANSWERING ....BLESSINGS OF THE DAY, HELEN.
Katie, My ggg's were James Napoleon "N.J." MYERS (seen as MYRES in census records) and Margaret Caroline LINDSEY - both born in TN / died in Sevier County, TN. Margaret, b. April 1845 d. November 14, 1903 Little Cove; resided at Rt 7, Walden's Creek, Little Cove, Sevier Co., TN; buried at HURST Chapel (or so I'm told). She remarried aft James' death to 2) Noah HAYWORTH (Quaker - famiy came across Mtns from Haywood, NC into Sevier) 3) Rev. Evan HURST who founded the HURST Chapel. Evan was m. bef Margaret to Jemima LOVEDAY on July 9, 1863 Sevier CO., TN. Evan, son of Sevier HURST b 1809 d 1870 and Martha UNK b 181 d 1850/54. Alot of HURST existed in Sevier, TN in the 1800's. Margaret, dau of Andrew Jackson "Andy" Lindsey b. Feb 22, 1827 and Mary Elizabeth ROBERTS b. 1818 d. May 13, 1854. Mary Eliz. eventually resides alone according to census as it's assumed either "he" died or remarried, as some records show. Eliz. ROBERTS, dau of Rev. John D. "Rev." Roberts b. 1870 VA d. 1888 Emerts Cove, TN and Eliz. EMERT b. Nov. 27. 1783 d. 1888 same. Andrew, son of Jessie JACKSON b 1816 and Salina IVEY (seen spelled as Liney in census records) b. 1797-1820 d. 1874. I've done alot of reading on the LINDSEY/ROBERTS/EMERTS of east TN and there is a connection to Wash. Co., TN. ** Alot of researchers show Andy's name as A. John LINDSEY but according to Sevierville Library his name shows in different wills as Andy. I've yet to see any of this paperwork other then what is sent to me scanned via email from "Sam" the librarian whom I'm gonna hug someday for putting up with me. James b. April or August of 1839. He died died on March 20, 1894 along the riverbed which flowed through his son, Andrew Jackson "Big Andy" MYERS farmland. Margaret, wondering of his whereabouts searched for him; hence they found him lying dead. I was told that his death was a bit of a mystery but assumed "heart failure" at the age of 54/55 (young). He is buried at the old Holly Springs Primitive Baptist Church, now called Little Cove Church/Cemetery. He actually deeded the land to the church for the land it sits on. He now has a marker on his grave as he was a minister at this church; prior he was a "Circuit Rider" preaching in Sevier to Blount and back again. I still haven't traced all of his tracks, yet, but I'm working on it. He's my main interest - my ggg from Mars. (James' birth is total speculation - born on planet WHOKNOWS. It's speculative that he was adopted from Maryville; or he was the son of Suzannah MOYERS and Enoch WILLOUGHBY - it's an old story but he preached one heck of a sermon during a period in Jefferson Co., Tn when unrest was occuring in the Presbyterian Church; eventually the church did split along with Enoch. I hear that according to "writings" in the McMinnville and Sevierville County Libraries (and Jefferson Co., Historical Society) that Enoch WILLOUGHBY was run out of town due to this one sermon. Wow. James shows in 1840 Jefferson Co., TN Census with: Susan MOYERS (head of household) 30-40 years of age. Mary J. "Clary" MOYERS b. 1831 Sarah E.(lizabeth) MOYERS b. 1836 James shows up again in 1850 Jefferson Co., TN as age 11 with: Susan MOYERS (head of household) 42 years of age. Mary J. "Clary" MOYERS b. 1831 Sarah E.(lizabeth) MOYERS b. 1836 Susan (Suzannah) MOYERS, dau of James David MOYERS b. Mar 27, 1767 Culpeper, VA d. Feb 18, 1838 and Mary Polly BLACKBURN b. Nov 1, 1768 Frederick Co., VA d. 1846. Both died and are buried in White Pine, Jefferson CO., TN. I am told by Sevierville Courthouse; Library and D.A.R. cousins/genealogist/historians in TN that we stem from George MAYER who lived in the 2nd colony of Germanna 1717; he came on the Ship SCOTT; it ship wrecked along the shores of VA; he was not suppose to land there. He was an indentured slave. Most of his family died enroute; he was literally robbed of his money before sailing Europe forcing him to indenture his services for 7 years. P.S. Thanks to the wonderful people that run this board whom showed me the way to my people; really... had it not been for them, I'd not be here on this group right now. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER
Katie, I'd love to read more re: the Presbyterian's of Washington Co., TN. Did you know that not only is there a First Presbyterian Church a few miles from the Pigeon Forge area of TN; but there is also a Pigeon Forge River in Washington Co., PA near a church of similiar name. Alot of the same surnames exist in both areas and I always wondered of the connection. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER
