    3. Dianna, I've been seeing alot of material with Baptist and Presbyterian mixed in the same paragraphs, like the one below. Did these two groups have a common faction at one time? I love your writings, very interesting. I'm assuming that Hiwassee is one and the same as the one in Towns County, GA - bordering se TN? 1. [MOYERS] Go Tell It On The Mountains...
    2. Chrystie Myes
    3. Helen, Tell me more about the "Primitive" type of Baptist. Foot washing... do you mean they were in the rivers alot, so to speak? Like pictures I've seen. I'm fairly certain, from old photo's that they were very... "hillish" aw geez, I mean... mountainous.;) No disrespect intended now. I have "mountainous" folks on both maternal and paternal. I've joked about myself being from an old "hillish" type family. Please, no offense to anyone out here. Ok, I'll just say it. I live in the big city, but deep down inside, I'm a hillbilly;) And dabnabbit, proud of it too! Obviously, the Mennonite's Lutheran type religion; Presbyterian and Methodist were the first here in America; Baptist a short time later. Just knowing the difference bet Primitive and Southern would help in my search. In other words Helen, you're telling me to not look in the city areas in TN; but rather the mountains? 3. Betty and Katie, Just yesterday I seen John MYERS and his wife Catherine COUCH's records up in Westminster Library, Carroll Co., MD - alot of these holdings are actually from when the area was known as Funkstown - just a few miles from Pennsylvania. Matter of fact, the Amish have a large market there - of which I am not feeling well today from - ate too much of their great German Amish food. Was Catherine's surname seen as CROUCH at times? Was John's surname orginally MOYERS from possibly Culpeper, VA? Did these two folks end up in Greene Co., TN. John MOYERS, son of Vincent MOYERS b 1721 d 1797 and Elizabeth NEWCOMER. Other children of Vincent and Eliz. include: Maria, Salome, Benjamin, Anna, Christian, Barbara. Vincent, son of Hans George MAYER b 1681 d 1753 and Barbara LANDIS. Other children: John, Christian (seen as Christoph), Veronica, Abraham, Elias, Georg, Michael. (all above sons had the word Hans before their first names - common practice during that era). Hans George had two brothers that I know of; one's name is speculation; the other was Hans Johannes (seen as Johan/Johann) MAYER. They were the children of Hans "Rev Vincent" or Martin Mayer b. Sep 12, 1647 d May 23 1693 and Anna HENN b abt 1647 d. Sept 14, 1706 (m. May 31, 1668 Gross, Sachsenheim, Germany. Hans Vincent or Martin MAYER, son of Hans Georg(e) "John George" MAYER b May 18, 1611 and Anna Marie Margaretha (K)JUPFER both from Gross, Schsenheim called the Free Imperial City of Ulm. Other sons were Hans Christo Georg and Hans Johannes Melchior MAYER b 1636 Tell me, were they in MD and PA bef migrating into TN? If VA, do you know about where? VA covered alot of territory at one long time ago. -- Chrystie MYERS - ROOTSWEB.COM List Administrator - [email protected] BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MOYERS, MYRES, SWECKER > From: Betty L Myers <[email protected]> > Reply-To: [email protected] > Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2001 14:48:32 -0600 > To: [email protected] > Subject: [MOYERS] Re: Myers and Lindsey > Resent-From: [email protected] > Resent-Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2001 14:50:25 -0600 > > Dear Katie, > > I am interested in your Myers/Lindsey lines. 3. I probably told everyone already but just in case.. Goto goto http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chrystiem/myersfam.html Look under NEW and click on Library of Congress Photos - you'll see letters and photos dating back to 1774; a few are letters that Christopher MOYERS/MYERS wrote to Abe LINCOLN; some are from the BLACKBURN'S writing to JEFFERSON and WASHINGTON; there's a Anne MYERS who did "espionage" work in 1774! See, we women were in control and you guys just didn't know it. Also, clck on The MEYER MIRROR - Wow, the lineage. I've only got not quite 1/2 of the sheets up and everyone of these lineage stories has at least 2 Jacob's (one of the zillion there were here eons ago) an Abraham - oh.... give me a few days and when I get all of the census records up you'll all flip. 2. Chrystie Myes
    3. 1830/1840/1850 MD Census Records Various wards, districts and counties in Maryland; I found these yesterday at Westminster Library in Carroll Co., MD. I have tons of new files that I'll be uploading all week - alot of scanning involved. Many copied sheets for MAYER(S), MEYER(S), MOYER(S), MYERS from all over Maryland from 1830, 1840 and 1850 census records that I found at above library. Just give me time. I finally have the Library of Congress Photos & Letters (some from BLACKBURN'S written to Geo. Washigton, Jefferson and Lincolon) as well as different old MOYERS/MYERS homesteads photographs now online and ready to be viewed; also I found what is called "The MEYER MIRROR" - it's uploaded and now in the right viewing format. Again, I take NO CREDIT for the newletter The MEYER MIRROR - I found it in a file cabinet and the sign said it was there for all to ue freely; it was printe 20 years back and would love to find the people that produced this newsletter. It covers MEYER(S), MOYER(S), MYER(S), MIER(S), MEIER(S), MYRE(S), MAHER(S), MAYER(S) as it states as well as any variations. There is no set area for this newsletter - I found articles from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois and even the Dakotas. If anyone knows these people, please, email me 'cause I'd love to meet with them. 3. Hi all, Great news group. Today, while visiting the Westminster Library in Carroll County, MD today I found great MOYER MOYERS MIERS MIER MAHER MYRES MYERS MEYER(S) finds, today!!! I'm doing my best to get everything uploaded to my server; I need to place them as links on a conected page to our homesite but... if you want to see this great 20 year old newsletter called, "The MEYER MIRROR" you're gonna love it. There are articles about Jacob; Christian; Isaac; Abraham - you name it. >From PA, MD, the Dakotas; Illinois, Ohio, I lost track. I am going to try and write the person that did the 2 years of this newsletter find - it's fantastic. If anyone out here has ever heard of this group, please let me know. I'd love to find out if they're still doing this MEYER MIRROR newslette. I'm only scanning in the sheets - by no means do I take credit for this fine work; I'm going to try and write to those who's addresses are lsited - but since it was in a file cabinet that was donated for all to use; I'm assuming that the person is either no longer with us or gave it up, age? Who knows. Ok, til I get the website page ready, for now, if you wish to see these pages, which I scanned in for 8 1/2 x 11 printable in black and white just goto http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chrystiem/MeyerMirror/pg1.jpeg Now, continue to do this to see each page; I'm up to pg12 thus far; getting sleeping here - been a long day so here's how to do it. Just replace the last part of the "address above" with pg2.jpeg and then pg3.jpeg til you reach pg12.jpeg. Wait, read the next email - there's plenty more information I'm going to share with all of you and will put it all up on the website for all to read and print out at your leisure, but for now, it will just have to do as such. Also, have alot of Census records I photocopied that I'll be scanning up to my site for printing. Bare with me - this takes time. Finding out which church the ancestors were in can really help the search. My Myers (Moyers) connection was married in the Primitive Baptist, but I am pretty sure her parents were German Lutheran, and his parents were Presbyterian Scots-Irish. The next few generations were Baptist. It seems, once in the frontiers of VA and TN, they would change denominations depending on the local preachers. Baptists didn't require formal education and ordination, and so suited the wilderness in the early years. Don't assume they stayed in the same sect as their parents or that they didn't change. The period from 1830 to after the civil War was quite disruptive in the churches because of major issues from slavery to which hymnal was used. There is lots of good info on the net on the church histories and old hymns etc. Happy hunting. 1. Re: [MOYERS] RE: The American Baptist Historical Society
    2. Helen, Most of our Myers were Primitive Baptist, some were preachers, some gave land for churches and some are still members of the Primitive Baptist Church. The Primitive Baptist did not believe in missions and missionaries nor did they have music in the church building. Your voices were God's musical instrument. I believe you will find that most of the early Baptist in the South were Primitive Baptist. Roger Williams was run out of one of the states and went to Providence, R.I. and established the first Baptist Church. The church split over missionaries/missions. All my ancestors were Primitive Baptist as far back as I have been able to trace them. Family lore has Jacob Myers leaving the Palatine because of religious persecution. I have a feeling he may have been Lutheran there. When he left there, it was the Holy Roman Empire. Wish I knew more. My husband's mother's family came from Sweden, and they have records through the Church back to forever. Helen you are a jewel. I wish I lived near enough to you to talk with you and pick your brain.
