Have you ever seen the following? Peter Moyers - the immigrant, b. Germany ca. 1727, died in Berks Co. PA, Bethel Township 1787, was never in Lincoln Co. TN. Peter Moyers (Sr.) - the immigrant's son, b. Berks Co. 1752, the one who enlisted and served in the Flying Camp and PA Militia, and whose pension application states- removed to MD after the death of his father and lived for six years, in 1793 removed to Winchaster VA where he lived for 23 yrs. (1816), lived in other parts of Va for 3 years, removed to TN at age 67 where his name first shows on deeds in 1819. Children thought to be Samuel, Henry, Peter Jr. George, Jacob (possibly more). Listed in 1820 and 1830 Lincoln Co. TN Censuses. In the 1830, he is in the 70 -80 age bracket (b. between 1750 - 1760) which agrees with the 1852 birth date from the pension application. Peter Jr. - listed in the 1830 Lincoln Co. TN Census (age bracket 30-40) b. 1790 - 1800 (son of Peter Sr. who was son of the immigrant Peter b. 1827 Gale - a descendant of (I think) ca. 1827 Peter the immigrant > 1752 Peter > 1805 Jacob
Gale, I have a very pressing appointment that I cannot miss. I will get back to you with information Re. Samuel Moyers.
Gale, It is my understanding the both Peter Moyers Sr. as well as Peter Jr. were veterans of the Revolutionary War. I have not applied for Pension papers, but you certainly could be right about the dates being more apt to be those of the younger Peter.
PETER MOYERS LINCOLN COUNTY PENNYSLVAIA MILITIA $50.00 ANNUAL ALLOWANCE $150.00 AMOUNT RECEIVED MARCH 2, 1833 PENSION STARTED AGE 82 This doesn't seem to be the ca. 1721 Peter Moyers b. in Germany but his ca. 1751 son Peter. What information do you have showing that 1721 Peter is the father of Samuel m. Phelps? Gale

Frederick MAYERS, 1813 - Grainger Co., Tennessee History of Tennessee - 30 East Tennessee Counties; 1887 - Goodspeed Grainger County is located between the "Clinch and Holston" Rivers; Clinch Mountain lies to the middle of the county and is the highest peak in that area. The settlement that is now Grainger County lies along the valley south of Clinch Mountain and at the head of Flat Creek. Among the first settlers were some who had resided a few years in what was (and still was in 1887) Hawkins County, TN. The most prominent of the pioneers was Col. James ORE, whom lived in what is known today as "Oresville", abt 1 mile east of BEAN Station, near the turn of the last century (pre 1800). He was a commander of an expedition against the Lower Cherokees in 1794. Prior to living here, ORE owned a store at Knoxville for a short time. BEAN'S Station, located at the crossing of the great thoroughfares leading from Kentucky to the south, and from Virginia and North Carolina to the west, was one of the best known places in Tennessee for more then 1/2 a century prior to the advent of railroads in this area. It was settled by George BEAN Sr., who as early as 1792 advertised in the Knoxville Gazette the he had opened a "Goldsmiths" and "Jewelers" Shop at that place and was prepared to make guns, too. He had 2 sons, George and Jesse. In 1800 Robert GORDON was licensed to keep an ordinary at BEAN'S Station as was James BYRNE in 1804. The hotel, which became an institution of the place and gave it much of it's celebrity, was established in 1813 by Thomas WHITESIDE. It became a famous stopping place for all travelers and "Drovers" taking their stock from Kentucky, Virginia into the southern markets. A "Race Course" was subsequently laid out in this vicinity and the village became a business point of considerable importance. Among the merchants who did business here were: John SHIELDS - KNIGHT & SHIELDS Samuel & Milton SHIELDS LOFFERTY & WHITESIDE. Of the other early settlers in this portion of the county that should be mentioned were the SENTERS, HENDERSONS, CRABTREES, TAYLORS and JOHNSTONS. Farther down the valley toward Rutledge were the BASSETTS, LEBONS and MOORES; Ethelred WILLIAMS, the father of William & James "WILLIAMS" (Wm. was a minister from the US to Turkey) settled at Rocky Springs and started a store there. Robert LONG located on the Holston River, where his granson now lives ?; and BOWEN and Abraham MCCONNELL, the father of the Honerable Thomas MCCONNELL of Chattanooga settled abt 5 miles east of Rutledge. Below Rutledge were Thomas MCBROWN, ***Frederick MAYERS***, John BUNCH and David TATE. Still lower down were Abner LOWE, Jerry JARNAGIN and Wm. CLAY. Along Flat Creek may be mentioned Samuel DODSON, John AKER, David WATSON, Martin CLEVELAND and the DYERS. Settlements were early made in this vicinity of BLAIR'S CROSS Roads and a station known as HARLEY'S Station which was built at Richland Creek. *NOTE: The Baptists were prominent in this area as the Presbyterians never had much strength at this time in this part of TN. Rutledge was established in 1801, 5 years after the organization of the county. It's population has never been large and in this respect, yet no other village in the state has remained so nearly stationary for so long a time. They had one church, one school, three stores, two taverns, two hatters, two blacksmiths, one saddler and two tanners. The 1st merchants were CARRICK, MONTGOMERY & CO., and Michael COONS/COUNTZ who was then a Blacksmith. ***In 1806, Frederick MAYERS*** opened his tavern in the house now occupied by Major SAWYERS (1887 when this was written) at about the same time as Joshua HICKEY erected a bldg. on the southwest corner of the public square, where he also kept a public house for several years. First I want to let everyone know that I am out here but the last week and a half, Baltimore had 2 major destructive accidents that destroyed alot of our internet cables underground. A trainwreck in the main train station tunnel and a collapse of water main's. So... also, I was with "msn.com" and my mail was not coming in for the longest time, as many of you have been aware of; I switched to earthlink and I'm not getting any postings from any of 8 groups (below) that I run. I don't know what the problem is here so what I've now decided to do is to do the DSL thing which means I'll be behind my own firewall from my home dialing out instantly, not thru any "server" so to speak. If that does not work... I'll be back at square root one... "Beats me"! The Twelve Steps for Recovering Genealogists 1. I admit that I am powerless over my gedcom and that my life has become unmanageable. 2. I believe that there is a greater power other than genealogy and that it will restore sanity to my life. 3. I have made a decision to turn my life over to non genealogists and hope that they will understand me. 4. I have admitted to myself and other genealogists that I am addicted to my obituary files. 5. I vow to no longer discuss "dead people" with my few remaining friends in hopes that they will remain my friends. 6. I promise to take photographs of things other than tombstones. 7. My only source of reading material will no longer be census, wills, death certificates and obituaries. 8. I will not spend family vacations in out-of-state libraries and courthouses. 9. Family picnics will no longer be held in cemeteries. 10. My family will no longer be referred to as "the live ones." 11. My time spent on the Internet will be limited to sites other than Rootsweb.com, Ancestry.com and MyGenealogy. com. 12. I will carry these messages to other genealogists and practice these principles every day. -- Chrystie MYERS, Rootsweb Newsgroups & Boards Administrator MOYERS, MAYERS, MYRES, MAJOR, KRABAL, COWGER, SWECKER, BROOKOVER Myers Genealogy http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chrystiem/myersfam.html
There is a Chrystie MOYERS/MYERS... I know that there is a researcher on that line out here somewhere as she has contacted me before. Why I remember this is because I found it interesting that not only was the name "Chrystie" used back in the 1800's but because it was my name, odd spelling even for today and it's a "he". This Chrystie MOYER/MOYERS/MIERS/MYERS, as seen in census records was in Greene County, TN, if my memory serves me right. He might have been the Christopher MOYER/MOYERS/MYERS that shows up in VA at the sametime as another Christopher MOYER, who was the son of Christopher, son of George MOYER. Geo., name originally spelled as Johann Georg MAJER, arrived on the shores of VA in 1717 and made up the 2nd colony of Germanna, VA. This line has been routed thru Madison, Orange, Culpeper and Fauquire Counties, VA; later timeline they traveled into Washington, Greene, Jefferson CO., TN. But, this is a different line that the other Christopher MOYERS who's line came in from PA, traveled down thru VA making their way into TN and other southern states. I believe that Chrystie MOYERS/MYERS was the son of Lesly MOYER or had a son as such named. I have 1 Chrysty MIERS whom was married to a Lydia WEST but they were married in 1807, Greene Co., TN. Daughter Phoebe m. to Jasper SIMMONS (son of Emanual SIMMONS and Eleanor A. HARPER). They also had a son named Lesley whom m. a "Indiana" and later to Mary GREGORY in Meigs Co., TN. I have a Christian MYERS, son of David MYERS. David was b. 1730 d. 1790 so this Christian would be much too early. Another Christian C. MYERS b. 1820 Carter Co., TN m. Pheobe HARDIN. Back to Lesly MYERS and Indiana UNK whom had a sons named Christopher Columbus and Pleasant who m. Sarah Alice CAYLOR but this was 1905 Blount CO., TN. You can find info on them at http://www.smokykin.com/. As I said, Lesly was the son of Christopher, seen as Chrystie MIERS/MOYERS and Lydia WEST. This particular line also intermarried with the WILLOUGHBYS whom came down from Fauquier County, VA into the Lost St of Franklin w/ties as well to Montgomery Co., KY as well as Greene, Jefferson, Grainger and Sumner Counties, TN. I live in Maryland and have seen many census records and I can tell you that a line of MIERS did travel from PA; settling in the Hagerstown area of MD which is enroute to Cumberland and Winchester, VA. This line was from the Adam and York Counties of PA. I hope this helps. sparkyokc1@aol.com wrote: > > I am the great grandson of Mary Moyers, born May 13 1842, died Sept. 30 1918, married to George Washington Nottingham on July 4 1961. John, do you know anything else about this family? Obviously, you connect, so where did they go after TN, and have you found them on census reports? If so, what years. John, I almost had the big one when I seen James MYERS... I could barely wait to see you're post come thru. I've had family from the Piney Flats area. Am I correct in my thinkings that Hawkins County was part of Jefferson and/or Sevier or vise versa? I strongly believe that some of my MYERS (not the MOYERS line) and LINDSEY/LINDSAY'S were in Washington Co., (NC) now TN pre 1840. Washington County was part of North Carolina, later when she became part of TN I think it was the major entry point for pioneers entering from VA. I'm guessing that you're unsure of whom James M. MYERS parents were?!? If that's the case, I"ll see if I have anything remotely near his name in some of the TN books here, and I just ordered a few more (EBAY:). Will post items from the books/census/war records when I receive them. Would you happen to know the below James's siblings names? Thanks John... keep up the good typing skills!
