I honestly have no other information on this line, at this moment. I'll surely be as much help as possible, though. Let's hope someone see's this and replies, as I too will keep an eye out for the names of his children and I'll check my logs, too.
Do you know if the Thomas Moyers that you listed here had a son named George W. Moyers. George W. Moyers is my gggrandfather and was from Wythe Co. VA. He moved to Grainger Co. TN and had a son named Samuel P. and a daughter named Minnie Quintillia Moyers. Any help on this family would be of great help. Don
Thanks, Gale, I'll put that in my pipe and smoke it for a while. Any daughters named Catherine by these brothers? Actually, my Catherine was on 1840 and 1850 Washington Co. vA census as birthplace VA, then in 1860 its down as NC. Go figure. Rowan Co. NC or Montgomery Co. TN and these other dudes you mentioned are a possibility as the likely suspect. The search goes on. What fun. By the way, is there any chance the pension application may be transcibed, or photocopied for me? Contact me privately at <angermeyer@hotmail.com> . Gale, I didn't find any more on any Peter's 1816-1819 in the Montgomery or Washington Co areas of VA that I am researching. He wouldn't show up on either 1810 or 1820 census. Although, it is a possibility he was visiting children in that area, maybe he even stayed with my Catharine Myers Lindsey who was most likely busy with 3,4, or 5 kids, eldest b 1813. The New River, Holston, and Clinch Rivers were jumping off points for TN and KY settlement, so these VA counties are likely places for him to be coming from Frederick Co along the "road". Did this Peter have a daughter named Catherine b. ca 1792-1796?? To Peter MYERS researchers, Gale, RMD et al, Here is a compilation of separate Peter MYERS information from my data base. Connections between these people and events have not been made and are open for discussion, to see if any of these may be the Peter(s) that others are researching. The data base gives Year, Date, State, County, Last Name, First Name, Event/Notes, Source. I will give my interpretation of this hodge podge last. For a rough map of current day counties related to New River Valley southwest VA, east TN, and northwest NC, see http://www.ls.net/~newriver/nrv.htm Katie DATA BASE NOTES (in chronological order) 1733 December 15 VA Spottsylvania Patent to Jacob Stover, 5,000 acres in Spottsylvania In St. Mark's Parish, on West Side of the Great Mountains, and on West Side of the Great Mountains, .... on Shenandoah River...The importation of one hundred persons to dwell within our Colony and Dominion of Virginia, whose names are:...(among others) MIRE (MYER) Jacob, Anna, Isaac, Abraham, John, Jacob, Joseph, Peter, George, Calkins, Christopher, Anna, Rachel, Catherine, Sarah, Susanna, Catherine, Ragley Chalkey's Chronicles Vol 1 p 523 1751 abt MYERS / MOYERS Peter born, received pension in Lincoln Co. I suspect the Montgomery and Wythe Co. Peter is Rena's Peter b. 1770. He could also possibly be the same one in Carter TN (which in 1796 included present day Johnson, Carter, Unicoi, parts of Sullivan TN). Peter b. 1777 (Botetourt) is likely different. Seems there was one other Peter b 1785, s/o (a different) Jacob in Botetourt. Peter b. Abt. 1751 from pension received in Lincoln Co. TN is probably the same as Peter b 1752, that Gale et al are talking about. Those of you who know more about him, can you rule him out as the father of a Catherine b. 1792-1796, who married Moses Lindsey 1813 Washington Co. VA ??? Now I have included the VA immigrants listed in Chalkey?s in 1733, I would like to know more about where this group settled. The man who imported them received 5000 acres in Spottsylvania Co on the Shenandoah River. That does not mean that the immigrants he brought settled in the same area. Does anyone know if these settled one of the Germanna colonies? There is a Peter MIRE here who obviously is older than the others in my data base. Linda, He probably was born around 1735-1740. I have no idea who his wife was.. Have not been able to find her name. When he was in S.C., there was a mention of Jacob Myers and his wife. When he died in Jackson Co., Ga., around 1808, there was no mention of a surviing wife. However, I have found one item that sounds like Margaret may have been his wife's name. I was reading some notes, and they mentioned Margaret Myers giving something to her beloved daughter ___________Roberson. Jacob's son Abraham marries a Sarah Roberson; so, it is possible that one of his daughter married a Roberson. When he died and his possessions were disposed of there was a Male Roberson that signed along with Abraham Myers. Bobbye
I agree with you that William C.'s father was Peter who died in 1835. However, a cousin found court records in Lincoln Co. that showed Peter Moyers b. 1752 died intestate in 1844 at the age of 92 with Nicholas Moyers being appointed administrator. This Peter would appear to be the one listed in 1830 in the 70 to 80 age bracket and Peter who died in 1835, leaving the children that you mentioned would seem to be the younger Peter - the one born between 1790 and 1800 or a little earlier. (just a thought) My Jacob b. ca. 1805 is not in his father's (Peter Sr.) household in the 1820. He hadn't left for AR yet so he is evidently the 16-18 yr. old in one of his brother's households - either Peter Jr. or George. Trying to sort it all out. Gale
I consider the father of William C. Moyers to be the Peter Moyers who died at age 66, according to an article in a biographical review published in 1893. According to court papers filed filed 12 Aug 1837, he died in 1835, with a court administrator appointed for his children in June Term of Court 1836. Peter would then be somewhat older than the census would indicate. Is the census data you list from 1820? If so, the male 16-18 is unknown to me, and William was not yet born. The other ages work for the children listed below. I have the following children (calculated ages except William) Clotilda M 1815 Isaac Henry M 1816 Joel S M 1820 John C M 1822 William C M 1826 Dec 26
I think the extra Peter that you mentioned might be the following, Peter Jr. b. between 1790 and 1800 and listed in the 1820 and 1830 Lincoln Co. TN Censuses. 1820 Peter Jr. 1830 Peter Jr. 2 m. under 10 30 - 40 age bracket 1 m 16-18 1 m 26 - 45 1 f under 10 1 f 26 - 45 Have you considered this Peter to be the father of your William C. b. 1826 rather than Peter b. 1752 listed in the 1830 census - age between 70-80? Gale 1721 Peter > 1752 Peter > 1805 Jacob brother of the above Peter Jr.
Katie, That's the only VA county name I have for Peter Moyers. From (b.1752) Peter Moyers' pension application submitted in Lincoln Co. TN in 1832: He removed to MD where he lived for 6 years and then (1793) removed to Winchester VA where he lived for 23 years (1816). He then lived in OTHER PARTS OF VA for 3 years. (1819). And then at age 67, he removed to TN where his name first shows on deeds in 1819.
