I'm inclined to believe that he may have come from MD, NY or PA. There is a very interesting story I'm trying to find the truth behind. So it goes: an ancestor of Peter's was a crew member of the notorious Pirate Captain Kidd. He purportedly jumped ship in New York w/ treasure in hand or knew the location of some of the treasure. Either way he skidaddled and supposedly there was a last name change in the process. The story has it that some of this treasure was used in part to help fund the beginnings of the F.E. Myers & Brothers Company of Ashland, OH (which still is in business today).

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HU2.2ACIB/204.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I have been unable to trace the brother (Jacob) of draft age in 1778, Berks Co. PA . I don't know if he left Berks Co. PA with 1752 Peter five years after the revolution and was in the same places or not. After PA, Peter spent 6 years in MD (possibly Frederick Co.) and 22-23 in Winchester VA (Frederick Co.). Brother Jacob could have had a son named Peter b. ca. 1816 since 1752 Peter named a son named Jacob b. 1805. There are many who believe (no proof) that the brothers' father was named Peter. 1805 Jacob married Lettice Coulter in Cane Hill AR. His sons, William A. and James served on the Confederate side. 1752 Peter had a son named Peter, but he married Betsy Connell 9/1/1807 in Davidson Co. TN He had children: Clotilda Formault; Isaac Moyers; Joel S. Moyers; John C. Moyers; William C. Moyers. The name can be found spelled Myers (etc.) in many places and was pronounced that way though spelled Moyers (in my line). Some descendants ended up with the Myers spelling. Did 1816 Peter J. come from MD or VA before arriving in OH?

I am seeking a Peter J. Myers d. circa 1912 who married a Catharine Holmes in Wayne, OH. 1866. They had 5 children: Joseph, Curtis, Rose, Arizona, and Montana. Peter served the duration of the Civil War on the Union side and I believe (not positive) in the Ohio 124th Infantry. His enlistment age was given at 45 which would have made him about 96 at time of death.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HU2.2ACIB/204.1 Message Board Post: ABOUT JACOB: 1752 Peter did have a brother, Jacob, son of the immigrant. He substituted for him in the Rev. War in 1778. According to 1752 Peter's pension application on the last page, "As soon as I got home, which I think was some time in July, I again became a substitute for my brother, Jacob Moyer, who had just been drafted for two months in the regiment commanded by Col. Aeart...". This Jacob who was of draft age in 1778, son of the immigrant and brother of 1752 Peter, was NOT the Jacob who purchased Peter's coppersmith business in 1824 in LCT, went to Cane Hill AR ca. 1830, married Lettice Coulter, went to California, visited Lincoln Co. TN in 1881. The Jacob who did those things (brother of Samuel and Henry - documented in a letter from P.W. Moyers in 1886) was born in VA in 1805 - 27 years after the immigrant's son, Jacob, was drafted.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HU2.2ACIB/79.80.137.1.2 Message Board Post: I received 1752 Peter's pension application last week. There is a death date of 3 Oct. 1836 in Lincoln Co. TN. He would have been 85 in a month. Also there is an interesting point about a brother, Jacob. You mentioned the Chicago Biographical Publishing Co. article. In the article about William C., "Peter MOYERS, the grandfather of William C., came from Germany with his bride, and settled in Pennsylvania. He joined WASHINGTON's army, and it is believed served through the war. He was well educated in Germany, and after the close of the Revolutionary War settled in Virginia, near Woodstock, Shenandoah County, subsequently removing to Tennessee to the home of their son, Peter, where they died at the ages of one hundred and five, and one hundred and one respectively, within a few years of each other. They had five sons, viz: John, Peter, Henry, Samuel and Jacob, who all removed to Tennessee, but John afterward returned to Virginia. Jacob died in California, and the rest all reared large families. Peter married in Nashville, Tenn., Elizabeth CONEL, who it is believed came from Wales. " The Jacob mentioned above is my ancestor. He returned to Lincoln Co. TN in 1881 from Cane Hill AR for a visit(newspaper account) and traveled to CA (I'm not sure about his dying there). He was born in VA ca. 1805. In 1752 Peter's pension application, he states, "As soon as I got home (1778) which I think was some time in July, I again became a substitute for my brother, Jacob Moyer, who had been drafted for two months in the regiment commanded by Col. Aeart/Acart..." This brother, Jacob, of 1752 Peter, who was of draft age in 1778 in PA, could not have been my Jacob b. 1805 in VA. Therefore, my Jacob could not have been the son of the immigrant. Since 1752 Peter was in Winchester VA (as he stated in his application) for 22-23 years (ca. 1794 - 1816/17), he, not the immigrant, was the father of Jacob b. 1805 who "died in California."

    3. Virus, Trojans, Worms RootsWeb's mailing lists are filtered and attachments are removed. A virus that is distributed as an attachment will not reach you through a RootsWeb mailing list. New virus, trojans, or worms are constantly being found, along with older version that are still being circulated. A good virus protection software can be invaluable, providing you keep it updated. It is impossible for us to list the thousands of versions here, so we encourage you to refer to the Web sites of companies that list the current versions - especially if you believe you have received a new version. These are a few of the sites, including one that will do an online check of your computer (the first one). http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/ http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ http://www.stanford.edu/group/partners/hoaxes.shtml http://kumite.com/myths/ http://www.mcafee.com/centers/anti-virus/default2.asp http://www.europe.f-secure.com/v-descs/newapt.htm What can you do? Protect yourself by never opening an attachment from someone you do not know, or that look suspicious, and keep your virus protection software updated (check for updates periodically, and anytime you have heard of a new virus). If an unexpected attachment comes from someone you do know, write to confirm they sent the attachment prior to opening it. If you receive an e-mail that appears to come from RootsWeb (other than a mailing list digest), and there is an attachment of any kind, don't open it. If you feel the attachment is legitimate, use your virus protection software to check that the file isn't infected. The newest varieties of virus', trojans, and worms, will appear to come from someone you know (such as RootsWeb), or have a file name that would make it look legitimate. Don't assume that because you know the sender, or that because the subject line or file name appears to be legitimate that it is safe - if it is infected, those fields will be forged to appear legitimate. Remember, if you do not open attachments, you substantially reduce the chances of becoming infected with a virus. Delete it. Then empty the trash bin to make sure it is gone. If you are using an e-mail program that stores attachments elsewhere on your computer, such as Eudora, find it there and delete it too. ------------------ "------------------ Chrystie MYERS - Rootsweb List & Board Administrator BROOKOVER COWGER KRABAL MAYERS MAJOR MOYERS MYRES SWECKER
