It's only about 30 min. west of Fayetteville. The 1840 and 1850 censuses are on line in Washington Co. I don't remember seeing any other Moyers/Myers in those two. (My line spelled it Moyers but pronounced it Myers so it got written that way a lot - both the above censuses.) Jacob's wife died within the first 10 years of marriage, and of 4 children, only two were sons - William Alexander and James. Both sons were in Collin Co. TX by the 1870 so I never looked in the 1860 or the 1870 Cane Hill AR Census. There could have been others (maybe relatives) there by then. Your George Jacob would be the same age as William A. and James. I'll look around and see if I can find a connection. Gale

The Rev. A. J. Fretz has Peter with a brother Jacob (Lehigh county PA) definately a Mennonite minister - quite famous in fact. That is why I asked about the Mennonite records. I don't know enough about Churches in the south during this time frame. I try to check all the records available of all the churches where I research. Just in case. Perhaps husband and wife were of differing faiths. Do you know anything about the settling of Lincoln Co.? If the Presbyterian Church was the most popular, perhaps the area was settled by NC folks?

    3. There was a Peter Meyer (who had no son named Peter) - "the immigrant Mennonite settler who was b. abt. 1723, in Switzerland and who died 1792/93 at Springfield Township, Bucks Co., PA. He settled in Springfield Township, Bucks County PA, near Pleasant Valley, where, in 1752, he purchased his farm of 107 acres from Joseph Brown." I haven't seen any mention of the Mennonite Church in connection to 1752 Peter Moyers b. in Berks Co. PA. I did find: Meyer, George b. 13 May 1785 father Peter, mother not given record from Schwartzwald Reformed Ch., Exeter Twp. 3. Hi Susan, Did you ever find any information about: I am looking for proof that Catherine Moyers b. 1829 Tennessee d. 1863 Pope Co. is the daughter of George W. Moyers and Mary "Polly" Windle. The Civil War papers that I have give John A. Moyers and Jarvis Moyers as witnesses. Also Jarvis Moyers because the guardian of her younger children. Can anyone help prove Catherine's parents? Thank you, Susan I recently received a paper from a Moyers cousins - DOCUMENTING PARENTAGE THROUGH A SIBLING RELATIONSHIP: The case of George W. Moyers by Ricky T. Allen. She was proving that George W. 1818-1820 was a son of George and Polly. (she got in the DRA) There's a lot of Southern IL information in the paper. If you haven't seen it and would like a copy, I'd be glad to scan and email it to you. Perhaps there's some clue about Catherine. I read in a paper, DOCUMENTING PARENTAGE THROUGH A SIBLING RELATIONSHIP: The case of George W. Moyers (b. 1818-20), that the Southern IL Moyers/Myers were connected to the Waltersburg Church in Pope Co. Do you know what denomination this church was? There were no Presbyterian Churches in the small TX towns where my g grandparents lived. Perhaps that's why they were Methodists. In Cane Hill AR, where my Jacob (gg) settled after leaving LCT, I believe the only chruch I saw there was a Presbyterian one.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HU2.2ACIB/204.3.1 Message Board Post: Actually, I have seen no documented evidence to prove that 1752 Peter's father was even named Peter. So, I am not limiting my search to an immigrant Peter. It seems as if his name could have just as easily been Jacob, George, etc. Also, a large portion of Philadelphia Co. became Berks Co. in 1752. Some Moyers/etc. record there (prior to 1752) might turn up something about 1752 Peter's father. I've only seen (documented) the name of one brother. On the last page of 1752 Peter's pension application, he states, "As soon as I got home (1778), I became a substitute for my brother Jacob Moyer." This brother of 1752 Peter, Jacob, of draft age in 1778 was not the Jacob who went to California as stated in the biographies of the Williams. The Jacob who went to CA (on a trip) was my Jacob who was born in 1805 in VA. From a letter in 1881 by P.W. Moyers (son of your Henry), "Uncle Jacob said he had been to California..." I looked up the history of CA. It doesn't seem possible that a brother of 1752 Peter (son of the immigrant) could have gone to CA. He would have been around 80 years of age when the first "Yankees" started arriving in CA. I've seen no evidence to link the Peter Meyer age 20 on the Snow Molly in 1741 to 1752 Peter born in Berks Co. I think there's a book or paper in the library in LCT that makes this connection, but when I've seen it quoted, it said "undocumented." The passenger lists that I've seen from that time, including the Snow Molly, list all males 16 and over. None of them listed women. I'll email you with the name and address of the person with the Fretz book information about Mennonite preacher, Peter from Bucks Co. who was not in Berks Co.in 1752 and who did not have a son named Peter. Someone in Winchester VA looked for info about 1752 Peter for me and found nothing. I still think, since he was there for 22-23 years, there has to be something (a record of a business) even though I don't think the info there will answer any questions. I did find a marriage in Winchester VA in 1803 for Peter Myers and Hannah Hooker. Since my Jacob was born in 1805 after a 12 year gap, it could be a 2nd marriage for 1752 Peter - no proof though. I wrote for a look up for Georges born in Berks Co. 1781-1800 and got the following: No Moyer No Myer Mayer Franz George b. 1800 George Frederick b. 1799 Johann Georg b. 1798 Meyer Hans George b. 1789 Johann Georg b. 1789 George b. 13 May 1785 father Peter, mother not given record from Schwartzwald Reformed Ch., Exeter Twp. I have no idea if this is our Peter and first son George or not, but the year is only one year off from the date everyone lists. This is the only mention of a church that I've ever seen. I read something about this church - becoming or the basis for - the Church of Christ. Do you know of any TN or IL connections to the Church of Christ? My line (TN>AR>TX) ended up Methodist.

I have long thought there must have been three Peters, but have found no documented evidence to link my family with the immigrant Peter in Pennsylvania. Is there real proof that the immigrant Peter (Snow Molly) really belongs to this family? From Rev. Fretz's work, I find the immigrant Peter had no son named Peter. Have you found any records from Virginia or Maryland that would link the Lincoln Co. Moyers with the Mennonite faith? From which of the Rev. Fretz's works did you find the death date for Peter Sr ( immigrant) and the wife's name? I have never seen that listed. I descend from Henry Moyers. His son Felix Bernie left a journal stating his father was Henry and his grandfather was Peter. He didn't bother to say which Peter. I have tried to research the part of the family that left Lincoln County and moved to Pope County Illinois, hoping more information might surface there. But haven't gotten far. Have you tried that route? I understand some moved there and then came back to Lincoln County. I don't believe it was unusual for the other members of the families to not be listed on the ship passenger lists. I think I read somewhere that usually the head of the household alone was listed. I agree with your conclusions. Have you done any research into the family while they lived in Virginia? I read from one researcher that there is a book about cabinet makers in the Lincoln Co area that described the family business in Virginia is some way. Have you seen this source?
