Does anybody have any information on a Joseph Myers/Moyers/Meyers married to a Jane Van Allsdale? Both were born in PA approximately 1805ish and later were in OH. Hi: I read all the Myers info I can find, as I am researching my Myers ancestory. I have had no luck in finding much info. My grandfather was Joseph Alfred Myers, My dad was Fred Thomas Myers & an uncle was Joseph Alfred. It seems that we could be related if names mean anything. I was told my grandfather was born in Zanesville, OH, but according to his military records he was born in PA. There sure are lots of Myerses out there. I wish I could find mine. Susie and MOYER Gang, Nationalities in early Berks Co., PA >From Morton MONTGOMERY'S History of Berks Co.., PA SWEDES The firt permanent settlement along the Delaware River in PA was effected by a small colony of Swedes in 1638. 10 years prior, the subject of encouraging Swedes to settle in PA, for purposes of trade, had been discussed by the King of Sweden; but this warfare with the Germans during this period and the King's sudden death ended this pursuit, temporarily as the Swedes settling in PA was reconsidered and thankfully revised by his Lord Chancellor under the (now) reign of his daughter, the young Swedish Queen Christina (nice name). The whole number of settlers during this era in the new country (which they called New Sweden) did not even exceed 50 in numbers. The Swedes effected the most of their settlements on the western side of the Delaware River, and extended them along the river and it's prominent tributary "Schuylkill". In 10 years to follow, their numbers did not increase to 100 hundres but, their success in carrying on trade, they could not establish such a firm hold upon the country as to continue their gov't a score of years. So, in i1655 their Govenor surrendered his reign to the Dutch and so ended the rule of the Swedes in Pennsylvania. But, those who had settled (Swedes) taking up lands along the Delaware and Schuykill Rivers did not leave their settlements but rather worked with the help of PENN, upon his arrival 30 years later, as he encouraged the Swedes to move towards the interior, moreso. The English settlers multipled more rapidly after PENN gave a fixed gov't to the province, and toward the close of the 17th century the Swedes began to consider the propriety of accepting PENN'S offer. A small colony, under the leadership of Andrew RUDMAN found suitable land along the Schuykill River several miles above the mouth of the Manatawny Creek. By 1701 the Swedes Settlement had petitioned for 10,000 acres, and pursed land warrants that were issued on certain tracts of land, up to 10,500 ares in all were surveyed andlaid off for the Swedes. The names of the Swedes were: Andrew RUDMAN Andrew BANKSON Benjamin BURDEN Peter, Benjamin BOON Mounce JONES Justa JUSTASON Mounce JUSTICE John, Otto Ernest and Peter COCK Jacob CULINN Matthias HOLSTON Morton MORTON (Shrugging) Richard ROADS And Jonas YOCUM. All of these, except RUDMAN, remained and made permanent settlements. A bldg erected bhy of them in 1716 still stands though now altered in appearance but it is the oldest bldg in the county. Descendants of some of them are still within the Township now called Amity; notable.. The JONES and YOCUMS were very prominent in this area. Amity was the only colony os Fwedes which remained in the twp almost entirely. They were the 1st settleres who erected a bldg for religious worship in this country. They were members of the Lutheran Sect and possessed admirable characteristics so much so that even the local Indians left them alone, unmolested. There were known even then as peaceful people while everyone around them were busy fighting for new lands, religion and laws. The word Amity means peaceful and so it is the township Amity that came to be named in 1720. Hi, Gary, This is a long shot, but I wonder if your book has any information about a John Moyers/Myers who married Catherine Couch in Greene County, TN in 1789. I believe John was from Pennsylvania, but I have a hunch who may have stopped off in Virginia on the way. His marriage record lists him as John Moyers, but after that he always seems to be listed as John Myers. I have a lot of information about his and Catherine's descendents, but do not know who John's parents or siblings were or when and where he was born. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Would be most happy to share information regarding his descendents. My husband descends from his son Christopher who married Arpy Manes. Thanks in advance, Betty

Looking for information regarding a John Moyers/Myers m. a Mary Creps? (spelling) likely around 1860s in either MI or OH. I think John (b. ca 1840s?) may have a brother named 'Peter' b. 1837 OH. Also, I think (am hoping) John's & Peter's parents were a Joseph & Jane Myers (both born in PA ca. 1805). Refer to 1870 & 1880 census record for OH & MI. John & Mary had at least one daughter, Edna Louise b. 1883 m. Glen Dowding (brother to Solomon Dowding) Thx - ThomasGet more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com
Thomas, The answer to your question might vary depending on who answers. From research that I have done, the following seem likely. PETER MOYERS was born December 1752 in Berks Co., Pennsylvania, and died 03 October 1836 in Lincoln Co. Tennessee. He lived in Berks Co. PA for about 5 years after the Revolution, then MD for 6 years before Winchester VA. Children of PETER MOYERS are: i. JACOB MOYERS, b. Abt. 1805, Virginia; d. Aft. 1881, Cane Hill, Washington Co., Arkansas. ii. GEORGE MOYERS, b. 1784, Pennsylvania; d. Pope Co. Illinois. iii. PETER MOYERS, b. Abt. 1790, Maryland (probably); d. 1835, Lincoln Co. TN. iv. SAMUEL MOYERS, b. 1791, Maryland; d. 24 December 1869, Lincoln Co. Tennessee. v. HENRY MOYERS, b. Abt. 1793, Probably Maryland; d. July 1833, Lincoln Co. Tennessee. The above were the ones that ended up in Lincoln Co. TN with Peter in the 1820 census. Birth and death dates for everyone but Jacob are from their descendants' info. I have seen a John listed but have found no proof. I've seen the number 10 mentioned. Surely there were some were females.
