I also use FTM and have for about 8-9 years. I have been very happy with it. I do have images attached to the scrapbook feature but I also have a big harddrive and RAM. I burn the backups to CD. I strongly suggest you buy the cheapest package because most of the free CD's in the more expensive packages are ones that you can find free on the web (i.e., Social Security Death Index, etc.) I upgrade about every 2-3 upgraded versions. I have also used FTM for about 20 years. It hardly seems possible. I agree with Laine about the CD's. I also upgrade every 2-3 upgrades. It is not necessary to do it everytime. They don't usually make that many changes to the software each time, and a lot of the changes are ones that you may never use. Something else I have found is don't update when the software (any software) first comes out. If you wait about 4 months the software company will have worked out all of the bugs in the software and it might save you a lot of headaches.
