    3. Hello all: I would like to thank those of you who e-mailed the suggestion to add a name to my ancestor who was a Cherokee indian. I appreciate the interest. My great grandmother's name was Almeda Evangeline Mode. She was born 1866, Wright county. At some time I found her wedding information which gave her mothers name as M.A. Mode. At that time she was living in or around Carthage, Missouri, Richland township. I found her divorced with three boys, (one being my grandfather) in the 1900 census. It states her father came from Ohio, her mother from Tennessee. Because she may have remarried when she moved to Texas, I have no clue as to her last name at death.. at a time close to his death , he told my father that she (Almeda)was Cherokee Indian, that her sisters visited her wearing braids. He walked behind the group on a venture into town, as he was ashamed of the indian association. He gave the name of Almeda;s grandmother, the woman who walked on the Trail of Tears as being, Latoka Nationale. This mother had two other daughters , Blue Sky and Willow. He never talked about this until questioned by my father . I believe this family must have lived in areas around Carthage and those in Wright county for most of Almeda's young life. My original e-mail inquired about the validity of the Cherokees moving through Wright county and whether there were indian schools or other indications of this passage. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Kathleen Cochran-hutchinson
