I believe I have found the parents of William H. Scarbrough. They are likely James L and Mary J. These were on the 1880 Wood township, Write County Missouri census. The following family members were listed: James L. SCARBROUGH Self M Male W 38 MO Farmer TN TN - b. abt. 1842 Mary J. SCARBROUGH Wife M Female W 37 MO Keeping Houe TN GA - b. abt. 1843 William H. SCARBROUGH Son S Male W 9 MO MO MO - b. abt. 1871 (Which is right for the William on the 1920 Howell Co Mo census) George A. SCARBROUGH Son S Male W 7 MO MO MO - b. abt. 1873 James J. SCARBROUGH Son S Male W 6 MO MO MO - b. abt. 1874 Martha S. SCARBROUGH Dau S Female W 4 MO MO MO - b. abt. 1876 Albert J. SCARBROUGH Son S Male W 2 MO MO MO - b. abt. 1878 David S. SCARBROUGH Son S Male W 2M MO MO MO - b. abt. 1880 I am pretty sure through circumstantial evidence that the William H. here is the same as the one on the 1920 census. Write county is only 1 county away from Howell county and the birth dates are the same. The circumstantial evidence also fits the link to my family in West Tennessee. Both parents of James L. and the Father of Mary J are all originally from Tennessee, The H. In Williams name could be Henry, which is one of the sons that was left here. Plus William H. had a brother named Albert, which was the name of another son left here. Plus the verbal record of an older family member (named Henry) that said "after leaving Weakley County Tennessee, William went to Willow Springs MO and had 6 other children." So it fits, but I would love to have something stronger than circumstantial. Any info on any of these families above or those in the email below would be greatly appreciated. Scarbrough from Willow Springs, Howell County MO. or any of his descendants . I believe he is part of my family. My great great grandfather William Scarbrough had 2 sons; Albert and Henry. For some reason, he left his wife or she died, and he left his 2 sons in middle Tennessee. It was reported that he relocated to Howell county MO and had 6 additional children with a different wife. I found a William Scarbrough age 49 on the 1920 Howell Co. MO. Census in the Willow Springs township. This is about right for the age of my William. Born about 1871. The census reports a wife Virginia age 30, and 3 Sons; Grover age 15, David age 8, & Samuel age 5. I'm not sure if these are all William's children or if maybe they were children of Virginia and a previous husband, so these children may have a different last name. If anyone has any information on this family, anything at all I'm desperate for leads, please let me know!
