Hi A large source of leads to family-history data is now on line. It is comprised of the Tables of Contents of the first 22 volumes of the Missouri State Genealogical Association Journal, 1981-2002+. Importantly, below the Tables of Contents, is an index. Reviewers find the whole page easily navigated despite the great amount of data included. A few of the key words with which to search the index are county names, directions (east, south, north, west), and family surnames (for Bible records). Use your browsers search function. When you find interesting leads on the web page, you will probably want to see actual copies of the Journal. Many libraries subscribe to the Journal. There is also information, below the index on the web page, on how to obtain copies of articles or issues. One can get an idea as to the length of an article in the Journal by noting the page numbers where it begins and where the following article begins. However, some articles are serialized over two to four issues. The URL is <http://www.rollanet.org/~bdoerr/contents.htm>http://www.rollanet.org/~bdoerr/contents.htm >

Wright County Historical Society, if it can gather enough, will be publishing a book....working title of which is "Tales of Wright County, MO." We will edit these stories for appropriateness of telling in mixed company and to insure that nothing is published that might lead to a lawsuit or feud. And, of course, you may use names....although, I won't in the following Example: A well-known local attorney was called on to defend a man for making moonshine. He asked his client if he was guilty and the man said that he was, except that while he was sitting in jail awaiting trial, he saw the Sheriff and deputy playing cards and drinking his 'shine. That over a period of time, while awaiting trial, they had drunk up all the evidence against him. On the day of the trial, the prosecutor presented the case against the defendant with the Sheriff and the deputy as his witnesses. The defendant's attorney, requested that the evidence be produced. The Sheriff hemmed and hawed around, saying that everybody in the county knew the defendant made 'shine. However, the judge ordered him to produce it.......all three quarts that they had testified they had seized. When the Sheriff returned with three quarts of 'shine, the 'shine in each jar was a different shade. Obviously, indicating that it hadn't all come from the same still. The case was thrown out. The attorney who was telling this tale, said that if the Sheriff had been smart enough to mix the 'shine, so that all three had been the same shade, he would have lost the case. I also use FTM and have for about 8-9 years. I have been very happy with it. I do have images attached to the scrapbook feature but I also have a big harddrive and RAM. I burn the backups to CD. I strongly suggest you buy the cheapest package because most of the free CD's in the more expensive packages are ones that you can find free on the web (i.e., Social Security Death Index, etc.) I upgrade about every 2-3 upgraded versions. I have also used FTM for about 20 years. It hardly seems possible. I agree with Laine about the CD's. I also upgrade every 2-3 upgrades. It is not necessary to do it everytime. They don't usually make that many changes to the software each time, and a lot of the changes are ones that you may never use. Something else I have found is don't update when the software (any software) first comes out. If you wait about 4 months the software company will have worked out all of the bugs in the software and it might save you a lot of headaches. Old Mtn. Grove Cemetery and Swedish Cemetery listing has been placed in the MOGenWeb Project Archives. You can get there by going to the Wright County site and tracking your way from the MOGenWeb Archives link..... OR ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/mo/wright/cemeteries/mt.txt Have a good weekend. Changes: The spelling "Cutbirth" is incorrect. All that family's markers read "Cutburth." Also, Bluford Alonzo Cutburth's mother's maiden name was Stith....although she was married to a Pridgen before she married the Cutburth. I've made the changes on the website. Phyllis
