    1. Broyles School Reunion
    2. My grandfather attended the Broyles School--he's in the photo of the 1893 class shown in Fred Wood's delightful book. My mother, Alta (Pat) Burton and her brother Lee as well as Burton cousins are listed in the school during the years ending 1921 and 1922. I have a photograph of my mother--I'm not sure when it was taken--possibly at Broyles or perhaps later, after the family moved to Fresno, California. I'd very much like to know if this is of a Broyles class. Is someone attending the reunion, so that if I sent along a photo, they might be able to identify it by recognizing the other members of the class or the teacher? If so, I'd be delighted to make a copy and send it along. Linda Dewey San Francisco Researching in Wright County: Burton, Fletcher, Grogan, Smith

    3. During the next few days, I will be putting up a new contribution to the Wright County website. The following is not yet linked from the main page....although the link back to the main page is working on the new pages. On the first page that comes up, the link to the next page is working....and others will as I get them completed....so please do not be upset if it looks like a link is not working....it simply means that page is not up yet. Also, before I place a link from the main page, I will have created links that will make it easier to navigate the new contribution. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mowright/intro.htm Phyllis

Martha I Reids Duncan b. March 3, 1871 m. August Carlson (from Wright) November 9 1890. d. sometime during the winter of spring of 1916 or 1917. Her brother's name was William Thomas Grayson Duncan b. April 1, 1876 m. Mary Norries Dec 31, 1919 (second marriage for both I believe) d. November 21, 1951. The man Martha married was a swedish immigrant who had settled in Wright co. Sometime after they married they moved to Springfield in Greene county and lived there for a number of years.Martha died in Springfield. Her husband was a carpenter by trade. Years after her death, Martha's husband tried his hand at farming in Texas co, but returned to Springfield. Martha's children that survived into adulthood were, Etta Carlson, Charles Carlson, Flora Pearl Carlson, and Harold Carlson. Harold was only 8 when Martha died. Etta and Charles were adults when their mother died. After Martha died Etta and Charles moved to St. Louis where they lived the rest of their lives. Years ago, my mother was driving on the backroads in Wright co and came across a small faded out sign that said Duncan. She suspected that this might have been the small farming community that her Grandma Martha and Great Uncle Bill were from. Any historical info on this community, or info about Martha's parents would be extremely appreciated. jeanette

    3. Wright County Historical Society is now accepting stories for its new book, working title is: "Tales of Wright County". This is an attempt to preserve some of the oral history that is being lost as the "old timers" pass from the scene. These tales will include: murders, court cases, ghost stories, "incidents of youth", anecdotes, one-liners, Revival meetings, "Receipts" (if only I can find my grandmother's notebook, I know there are "receipts" for many remedies from bedwetting to "pie-zin" treatments to lady's maintaining a pearly white skin)......all from Wright County "hand-me-down" sources. All stories must be signed when submitted, but we will honor any request to not put you in the book as the contributor. If you wish to submit a drawing, or a picture, with your story, you will need to snail mail it to: Wright County Historical Society, P.O. Box 66, Hartville MO 65667. If you wish to email stories (no limit on the number you may submit), send them to wchs@getgoin.net Please put "Tales" in the subject line. Your stories are what will make this a great book. Phyllis
