Roy Elvis Mackley, of Mineral Point, died on Monday, June 5, 1967 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Denver, Colorado after a short illness. The son of Mrs. Mary Smith Mackley and the late Charles Mackley, he was born in St. Francois County on July 13, 1913, and was 53 years old at the time of his passing. He professed faith in Christ and was united with the First Baptist Church of Bonne Terre in 1957. In addition to his mother, Mr. Mackley is survived by his wife, Jewel Ervin Mackley; five sons, Charles and James of Potosi, Vernon and Walter of St. Louis, and Melvin, of the home; and three daughters; Shirley (Mrs. Roger Barton) of South Carolina, and Mary Lee and Sherrie Ann, both of the home. He is further survived by one brother, Paul, of Hopewell; two sisters; Mrs. W. Mattingly, of Farmington, and Mrs. Orvile LaChance, of Potosi Route; 9 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9, at the Knob Lick Church of God, with Rev. Joe Gensler officiating. Interment was in the Knob Lick Cemetery, under the direction of Gum and Son Service, Potosi. Independent Journal, Potosi, MO, Thursday, June 15, 1967
