L. Richardson's paternal home out at Hazel Run, 8 miles north of Bonne Terre, was completely demolished by the Lead Belt tornado. The imposing frame house was built by Richardson's father, Thomas Richardson, almost 50 years ago by hand. The writer was born there and often returned to the homestead to glean folklore material for his writings. Two nearby houses were untouched by the mighty force which descended upon Southeast Missouri and Illinois creating widespread havoc.
