He was born January 3, 1912 at Czar in Crawford County, Missouri, a son of the late Russell Sherman and Mary Ella (Morrison) Barr. Mr. Barr was a member of the Desloge United Methodist Church and Honorary Lifetime member of the Flat River Rotary Club. He taught school for eight years before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired in 1972 after 32 years of service as a Missouri Highway Patrol Trooper. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers; Fred, Lawrence, Roy, Edward and Lynn Barr and a sister, Grace Turnbnough. Survivors include his wife Margaret M. (Cole) Barr, a son, Ralph Barr and wife Karen of Springfield, IL, three grandchildren, Melanie (Mrs. Patrick Sullivan) Webster Groves, Jill (Mrs. Jason Scales) and Susan Barr, Chicago, IL; three great-grandchildren, Payton, Sean and Ryan Sullivan, a brother, Sherman Barr, Jr., and wife Pauline, Macon, MO; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2005 at the Desloge United Methodist Church. Burial was in Czar Cemetery in Crawford County. Memorials were suggested to Desloge United Methodist Church. C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home, Desloge was in charge of all arrangements. Independent Journal, Potosi, MO, Thursday, May 26, 2005
