Darst, 93, was born April 6, 1913 in Steelville, MO, the middle child of nine. Rev. Darst died Friday, May 5, 2006 at his home in Breckenridge Hills (St. Louis, MO). He was ordained as a minister in 1942 and served as pastor at several St. Louis area Baptist Churches, the most recent being Calvary Baptist in South County. Rev. Darst had two brothers who also became ministers. He was married April 10, 1935. His wife, Dorothy survives along with a foster daughter, Barbara Walker, St. Clair; a brother, Orville Darst, Sun City, Arizona; a sister Ida Barr, Moreno, California; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Rev. Darst prided himself in never having smoked or tasted liquor. He was employed for 32 years as an accountant for General Elevators. He had taught elementary school in Potosi and Belgrade, MO for 11 years prior to being ordanied a minister. Rev. Darst's wife said, "He loved to read. He read from a worn-out Bible. He had worn out three of four." He enjoyed helping his wife with gardening. He was a member of the Greater St. Louis Iris Society and Daylily Society. Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2006 at Baumann Colonial Chapel, 2504 Woodson Rd., Overland. Interment was in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, St. Ann. Memorials were suggested to Overland Baptist Church, 9303 Midland Blvd., Overland, MO 63114 or the Alzheimer's Association. Independent Journal, Potosi, MO, Thursday, May 11, 2006
