    1. Nephew and Courtois
    2. A few years ago I ran across this Nephew Soundex, N100 for 1920: Dorothy Nephew, age 3 2/12 born in Mo. enumerated with Joseph Courtois. Relationship is Grandchild I then Pulled up the Kingston Dist. 1920 Washington Co., Census and it had: Courtois, Joseph, Head, Male, White, 53 Courtois, Clara, Wife, Female, White, 53 Courtois Sarah, Daughter, Female, White, 16 Courtois, Teddy, Son, Male, White, 10 Nephew, Dorothy, Grandchild, Female, White, 3 2/12 What confuses me on this is my Grandmother was Ella Nephew, born 1882. Her siblings were: Cloves, Agnes May (married Court Compton), Tresia Corabelle (married Fred Wilson of Jefferson Co., Mo.), Anna (married Fred Paul and lived in Herculaneum, Jefferson Co., Mo.), Frank (married Ava Studders/Studdard), John (married Estella Pickett, lived in DeSoto, Jefferson Co., Mo.), Clara (disappeared and the family last had heard that she moved to Illinois and got involved with the wrong crowd and was murdered), James (married Gladys Battreal), Thomas (married Mary Bertha Boyer), and Bertha (married Bert Grace, then Roy Torrence). So who's child could Dorothy be? Frank's? John's? James? Thomas? These were the only Nephew men in the area. Except for their father who was William Ernest Nephew who was living in and died 1923 in DeSoto. Can anyone set me straight on this one? Also, who was Joseph Courtois? I know there were several Courtois/Courtaway/Courtway's in the area. I've checked the 1930 Census, Richwoods Twp., but Dorothy is no living with Joseph. The names listed now are: Courtois, Joseph, Head, 74 Courtois, Clara, Wife, 62 Courtois, Fred, Son, 22 Courtois, Opal, Daughter-in-law, 19 Thank you, Sharon (Hartzell) Smith Arnold, Jefferson County, Mo.
