He was born July 20, 1985 at Festus, Missouri, a son of David L. and Patricia (Litton) Akers. D.J. was a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church of Potosi and an active member of the American Family Rodeo Association. He was engaged to be married to Mellodie Ann Gleeson of Potosi and together they were the parents of Alli Marie Akers. Alli passed away in the car accident with her daddy. D.J. was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lynn Litton and Kenny Akers; great-grandparents, Fred and Hattie Akers and John and Gertrude Hrabousky. Those who remain to mourn the passing of his life include his parents, David and Pat Akers of Potosi; his fiance' and mother of Alli, Mellodie Gleeson of Potosi; three brothers, Matt, Billly and Bruce Akers of Potosi; grandmothers, Rose Ann Litton, Anna Bell Patterson and Helen Akers; aunts; uncles; cousins and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2005 at the Britton Chapel, Potosi with Rev. Tim Thebeau officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Johnny Akers, Mike Litton, Billy Gleeson, Matt Rifenburg, Brandon Hawkins and Mary Drennen. Honorary pallbearers were the American Family Rodeo Association Cowboys. Interment and final prayers were held in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, north of Potosi. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
