    3. John Barron died November 16, 1900. At the time of his death he was receiving his civil war pension. He had some difficulty getting his pension because his enlistment name was spelled BAIRON and not Barron. After his death, his widow, Mary Barron (nee McPhee) had to prove their marriage and births of their children. They were not Catholic so there wasn’t a baptism record for any of them. August 10, 1903 Mary Barron remarried to Joseph Trokey. They divorced March 10, 1916. She then reapplied for John Barron’s pension… with a lot of difficulty she got it. It was a mess. March 31, 1891 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, JOHN L. PAUL, aged 36 years, a resident of Summit, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… and FRANK GOVERO, aged 47 years, a resident of Summit, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri….. “That they have been well and personally acquainted with John Barron for 25 years, and 29 years, respectively, and that now have worked with him at mining at various times and have seen him almost continually for the above named dates and know that he is broken down in the back and that he is not able to work more than ¼ of his time, also that he is partially deaf.” John was disabled with piles while on duty at Smithland, Kentucky, about March 1861. At Brownsville Station, Arkansas, about August 1863, he disabled with chills, fever, loss of eye sight and hearing. January 21, 1901 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, ELIZABETH HOMAN, aged 52 years, a resident of Potosi, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… and JOHN L. PAUL, aged 52 years, a resident of Potosi, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri….. “We live near neighbors to Mary Barron… the property owed by Mary Barron is 23 acres situated in Sec.19, Twnshp 37, Range 3… not worth more than $60.00 (Note:WOW ) January 26, 1901 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, MOSES COOK, aged 78 years, a resident of Mineral Point, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… “That I lived a near neighbor to John Barron from the year 1868 to about the year 1887. I was well acquainted with the first wife of John Barron. Her name was Catherine (Brundle). I saw her frequently during her last illness and saw her body after death. I also assisted in digging a grave in which she was buried and attended the funeral, about the 28th day of September 1869.” January 31, 1901 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, CHARLES WILLIAMS, aged 49 years, a resident of Potosi, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… “I hold the office of coroner of Washington County.. that on the 16th day of November 1900 I held an inquest over the dead body of the said Barron….the deceased arose at the usual time on the morning of 16th of Nov…dressed himself and walked out into the yard and failed to return to breakfast. Soon after breakfast one of his children went out into the barn yard and found his body lying near a cabin used as a hen house.. cause of death from heart disease… February 13, 1901 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, JOHN EVENS, aged 63 years, a resident of Mineral Point, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… “That I have been well and personally acquainted with John Barron for 50 years and that the John Barron and I were raised near each other (we lived about one mile apart)…” March 27, 1901 "personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, BENJAMIN DAVIDSON, 66 years, a resident of Potosi, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… “That I have been well and personally acquainted with Mary Barron for 36 years and that the said Mary Barron was never married prior to her marriage to John Barron…. My means of knowing this is derived from having a long acquaintance with Neil McPhee, her father, and from the fact that Mary worked as a domestic in my family before she was grown….” February 16, 1901 “MARGARET A. MARLLER, of Hopewell, Missouri….. I was present at the births of the same in the capacity of midwife….for the births of Clara Barron, born October 28, 1888, Pearl L. born October 21, 1890 and Martin born May 22, 1892. I was not present for the birth of Mary L. born October 15, 1886, but called the following day.
