He was born November 17, 1936 in Washington County, a son to Ethel Virginia (Gilliam) Hayes and the late Andrew R. Hayes. He was united in marriage to Shirley Skiles on November 8, 1959 at St. Louis, MIssouri. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. David enjoyed going to nursing homes to play gospel music, playing music in general, and he enjoyed working on cars in his garage. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Hayes and a sister, Donne Eye. Those who remain to mourn the passing of his life include his wife, Shirley Hayes; mother, Ethel Hayes of Desloge; three sons, Michael Skiles and wife Tammy of Mineral Point, David Hayes and wife Cindy of Belleview and Alan Hayes and wife Janet of Cadet; a daughter, Sandra Nickels and husband Doug of Florissant; four brothers, James Hayes and wife Edith of Las Vegas, Nevada, Thomas Hayes and wife Geneva of Farmington, Hershel Hayes and wife Lestie of Farmington and Elmer Hayes of Bowling Greenn; four sisters, Maebell Patterson of Tiff, Mary Wren of Cadet, Eunice Jorden and husband Jimmie of Villa Ridge and Sue Ingram and husband Gary of Fletcher; 11 grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; nieces; nephewes; cousins and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Britton Chapel, Potosi, with Rev. Jay O'Neal and Rev. John Lands officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Goober DeClue, Greg Neubrand, Beaver Sietz, Andy Price, John Pickett and Little George Skiles. Interment and final prayers were held at New Diggins Cemetery, Mineral Point Route. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
