Carolyn was born in New Castle, Indiana, November 1, 1932, daughter of William Thomas, Sr. and Abbie Anna (Sheets) Lorton. On September 16, 1961 she was united in marriage to Olaf Hiorth Hansen and four children came to bless this union. Carolyn is survived by one son, John Hansen and wife Leigh Ann of Richwoods, MO; three daughters, Theresa Ferguson of Richmond, IN; Myrna Wallace and companion, David Brown of Richmond, IN and Janine Brammer and husband Bart of Spring Hill, Tennessee; three sisters, Martha Wine and husband Robert of Raleigh, North Carolina; Mary Collett and husband James of Brazil, IN and Nettie Dungan of Straughn, IN; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; great and great great nieces and nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents William, Sr. and Abbie Lorton; her husband, Olaf Hansen; one brother, William Thomas Lorton, Jr; three sisters, Bettie Myers, Rebecca McCall and Dorothy Downing and eight siblings in infancy. Carolyn was a devout Christian and a member of the Reign of Praise Family Church of St. Clair. She liked to operate the overhead projector fo the church and earned the reputation of being the church "Mom." In addition to serving her family as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, Carolyn worked as a greeter at the Wal-Mart in Union, MO. She was employed for a time at Votgelsan's Mobil Service Center in St. Clair as well as at Magnet Inc. in Washington, MO. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. As a younger woman, she loved to dance and even taught dancing lessons for a time. In later years, she found pleasure in collecting lighthouses. Carolyn was well known as a friendly, outgoing lady who never met a stranger. A devoted and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great and great great aunt, cousin and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her and loved her. Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2006 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair with Rev. Robert Adams officiating. Private committal will occur at a later date.
