Portell, 70, of Festus died Wednesday, July 28, 1976 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Born November 14, 1905, in Old Mines, Mo., he was the son of the late James and Nora (nee LaChance) Portell. A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Crystal City, the deceased was a retired painter at PPG Industries. Survivors include his wife, Magdalen (nee Coleman) Portell; two children, Mrs. James (Jerry) Vaughn, Knoxville, Tenn. and Phillip (Beans) Portell, Festus; five brothers and sisters, Sam Portell, Old Mines, Mo., Tiamon Portell and Frances Pidgett, both of St. Louis, Dora Vonderahe and Cora Reando, both of Old Mines, Mo.; six grandchildren, Steven, Michael, Kimberly and Danny Portell and David and Jason Vaughn. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Vinyard's Funeral Home, Festus. Services were held, Friday at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
