On 8 April 2006, the St. Louis Genealogical Society will hold its 36th Annual Fair at Maryland Heights Center. "Coming Home" will have 3 threads of lectures. The Society's website <www.stlgs.org/fair.htm> contains many more details including registration (early-bird discount ends 1 March) and downloadable (.PDF) documents with the program and a map. Longtime researcher, lecturer, and writer from Virginia, Richard Sayre, headlines Coming Home From The Military, which includes presentations about using military records to learn more about ancestors. Pamela Boyer Porter (CG, CGL), a popular St. Louis speaker and nationally published author, is featured on Coming Home to the Midwest and Beyond. She will cover migration into and out of the Midwest as well as regional dialects and how they help provide clues to further our research. Another popular historian and biographer, Father William B. Faherty, S.J., of St. Louis University, will address the cultures of St. Louis. The third thread, Coming Home to Genealogical Basics, addresses many aspects of using computers, software packages, and websites for conducting genealogical research. Local genealogists, Ed Murray, Ilene Murray, Patricia Walls Stamm (CG, CGL), and Ted Steele will provide interesting presentations focused on a wide range of genealogical topics. Audio CDs will be available of all the presentations. Exhibitors from across the United States will be on hand to offer a variety of genealogical books and materials. A technology room will focus on computers and specific software products. The Society's all-volunteer staff is available T, Th, Sa, 9:00 a.m.-noon to assist with any questions at 314-647-8547.
