James Kinkead's tragic death in the James Streinbrecher family tree posted on RootsWeb: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=steinie&id=I0362 James Kinkead's wife, Susannah Hughes, is my 2nd great grand-aunt. Susannah's parents, Captain John Hughes & Susannah Hays/Hayes, were born in Virginia and in 1806 migrated to the area that would later become southeastern Missouri. This was only three years after the land was obtained from France as part of the Louisiana Purchase. In the War of 1812 Captain John Hughes led a company of mounted riflemen, which he organized in New Madrid. When the war broke out, the Missouri area was still part of Upper Louisiana Territory. Later in 1812 it would be named Missouri Territory, with statehood following in 1821. The James Kinkead story is tragic yet interesting, and I would appreciate any details that anyone could offer. Warmest Regards, Donna
