Newcomer of Potosi, Missouri was born May 5, 1908 in Cadet, Missouri, the son of the late Elmer J. and Stella M. (Reando) Newcomer. He departed this life Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital in Potosi, Missouri having reached the age of ninety-seven years, five months and five days. Clarence was united in marriage to Edna Katherine Burford on August 25, 1934 in DeSoto, Missouri and to this union four children were born. Clarence is survived by three daughters; Linda Mae Newcomer of Potosi; Lydia Joan McCabe of Festus and Sally Marie Loner and husband Wayne of Potosi; two brothers, Alfred Newcomer and wife Beverly of Potosi and Homer Newcomer and wife Louise of Potosi; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and special friends. In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Newcomer on March 4, 2000; son Wayne Newcomer; brothers, Lafayette L. Newcomer and three sisters; Mae Burford, Annie Cook and Jennie Wright. Clarence was a 55 year plus member and Past President of the Potosi Lions Club where he was always one of the first to be on a committee and lend a hand or be the leader. Clarence was dedicated to the Washington County Fair Board. Clarence could be found working in Cook Shack #1 flipping hamburgers and doing other services. Clarence was always the first to be there to work. He was also a long time member of the Potosi Masonic Lodge. No. 131 A.F.& A.M. #131 where he unselfishly gave his time. Clarence took great pride in his poultry farm, C.E. Newcomer Poultry Farm where he farmed out chickens, raised cows, pigs and also owned and managed a hatchery business and feed store. Clarence also enjoyed his work as County Collector, where he served the people of Washington County. Clarence enjoyed living in Washington County and was a member of many other service organizations throughout the years. He was well known for his knowledge in the insurance business which he worked for many years. Clarence always had the welfare of others first in his mind, he was always willing to help, serve or donate to those in need. He worked with the Potosi School District to allow them to have an entrance to the elementary school. He was instrumental in the sale and future building site of the 1st Baptist Church of Potosi on the family farm. Clarence will long be remembered as a remarkable man, not only for his longevity, but for the intensity, honesty and clarity of focus with which he lived his life. He will always be remembered for the love he shared. Visitation was held Friday, October 14, 2005 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.; a Masonic service was held at 7:00 p.m. at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Brother Leonard Compton and Brother Don McCourtney officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Wayne Loner, Jeff Newcomer, Josh Newcomer, Craig McCabe, Kirk Gorham, David Newcomer and George Burford. Burial took place in the New Masonic Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri. A graveside service was held with Rev. Rick Gill officiating. Services were entrusted to the care and direction of the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
