His grandson, my grandfather, told us that James was returning home from preaching (he was circuit riding Cumberland Presbyterian Minister) and was mistaken for a Union sympathizer and killed (I think he said shot) by the Confederates. I had not heard the lynching story. Where did you find your information? Do you have any more details on this story? I have looked for newspaper articles, but had no luck. Thanks, Martha Halbert
