Gene was born May 17, 1923 at St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Luther Russell and Catherine (Becker) Thorpe. He was united in marriage to Cleo Vineyard August 23, 1946, in St. Louis and one daughter was born to this union. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a long time member of the Belgrade United Methodist Church and the Belgrade Masonic Lodge, A.F. and A.M. #632. Those who remain to mourn his passing include his wife, Cleo Thorpe; daughter, Terry Jean Purcell; two grandchildren, Tiimothy Purcell and Kristine Purcell, all of Belgrade; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. October 1, 2005 at the Belgrade United Methodist Church with Rev. Julius Ketsenburg officiating.
