I have been trying to put this together for years and haven't come to a conclusion. This all takes place in St. Francois Co. My husband's Great Great Grandparents were Berry Landsom Snyder b 1849 and Melissa Ann Cook b 1845 Their children were: William Washington, John Henry, Ida Belle who married Albert Valentine Smith (my husbands great grandparents), Julia who married an Edison, James, Effie who married a Papin, Rosa who married Abe Eaton, George Allen, Ella and Malinda who married a Vandiver and a May. My question is about George b 1880, lived in Desloge. I have his obituary stating he was married to Clara Humphrey in 1951. It states the following children by a previous marriage, Mrs. Lynn Smith of Bonne Terre, Marvin Snyder of Irondale, Amiel Snyder of FL and Ruby Byrd of NY. Then I have another obituary of a Mrs. George Snyder (Nettie Mathis b 1886, d 1935). The obituary says she married George Snyder 1933 and had 2 sons from a previous marriage, Luther Whaley and Walter Whaley. The children's names do not match up with the previous Snyder. Sounds like 2 different George Snyders. Now here's where I really get confused..................... My side of the family from Washington Co., Mo. My grandmother was Gertrude Portell who married Walter Boyer. She had a couple of sisters who married men from St. Francois Co. Lorene Portell who married Sam Mills. And another sister, Nellie who was married to Sam Whaley. At some point she married George Snyder and then died. George Snyder married her sister Victoria Portell (John Jefferson Tucker was her husband at one time) and then they divorced. I can't figure out which George Snyder my great aunts were married to. I thought possibly Nettie is really Nellie who had been married to Sam Whaley, but the obituary says Nettie's parents were Thomas and Julia Mathis. I have Victoria Snyder's death certificate and it states her husband is George Snyder. Would appreciate any insight. Thank you, Sharon
