Paine was born at Quaker on June 9, 1851, departed this life January 31, 1942 at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 22 days. On June 18, 1867, she was united in marriage to Marian Paine. No children were born to this union, but two orphan children were reared in the home, Mrs. Annie Turner and Mrs. Mary Beers. She was "born again" at the age of 14 and lived a consecrated life thereafter. She loved her Bible and had read it through several times. She enjoyed talking about the teachings of the scriptures. She was blessed with a long life which suggests "the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth." (Eph. 6:2-3) Her health was remarkably good for one of her age, until about 18 months ago when she began to decline. She was patient in her affliction, and her mind was clear and alert to the end. Her last days were spent in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Gibson where she had the tender and faithful care of Mrs. Gibson. She had been a widow for more than 40 years. Her life was a "living epistle, read and known of all men." She leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral services were conducted from the Shirley church with Eld. C.D. Barton in charge. Interment was in the Shirley cemetery with Sparks in charge.
