According to Sheriff Allen who was called to the scene of the accident, Politte was run over by a car driven by Kenneth Boyer of Potosi. Mr. Boyer, accompanied by a young woman, said he was unaware of the man lying in the road and that striking him was unavoidable. After summoning help, the injured man was rushed to a local doctor for emergency treatment. He died, however, a few hours later. It is reported that Politte and his son were returning home after having visited a tavern in the vicinity of Old Mines earlier in the evening They became separated and the elder man had lain down in the road and evidently had fallen asleep. At a coroner's inquest held Thursday, the jury returned a verdict of unavoidable accident. Funeral services for deceased were conducted by Rev. Naes from St. Joachim's Church in Old Mines Friday at 9:00 a.m. Burial was in the church cemetery by Boyer Services. Survivors are son, Marvin Politte, and three daughters, Mrs. Rudolph Lachance, Mrs. Amos Pratt and Mrs. Rolla Pratt, all of Old Mines. Mrs. Politte died in June 1941.
