Mrs. DeGonia, 75 years old, died on August 8 at the home of her nephew, Melvin Pruitt, on Mineral Point Rt. One, where she had made her home the past seven months. In 1902 she was married to Peter DeGonia at Bliss, Mo, and they were the parents of seven children. Her husband and the seven children preceded her in death. Surviving are one sister-in-law, Lila Myers, St. Louis; one nephew, Melvin Pruitt, Route One, Mineral Point; two nieces, Ruby Cain, Mineral Point, and Shirley Courtway,. St. Louis, and other relatives. The Rev. Robert DeClue officiated at funeral services, which were at 2 p.m. on August 10. Burial was in the New Diggins Cemetery under the direction of the Sparks Funeral Home. She was born December 31, 1896 at Palmer, Mo., a daughter of the late George Frank Jenkins and the late Mandy Goodson Jenkins. She was united in marriage to William Marler on October 1, 1916 at Belgrade and two children were born to this union. Mrs. Marler was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and William Jenkins. Those who remain to mourn her passing from this life are: her devoted husband, William Marler of Mt. Clemens; one daughter, Ollie (Mrs. Orville Gleason of Mt. Clemens; one son, Floyd Marler of Weldman, Mich; six sisters; Cleo White of St. Louis, Ethel Nipper, Suzie Anderson, Blanche Gilliam, Lottie Ives and Maude Carol, all of Belgrade, three brothers; Harry Jenkins of Irondale, Marvin Jenkins and Dewey Jenkins, both of Belgrade; 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 1 at Sparks Chapel, Potosi, with Rev. Guy Gillam officiating. Interment was in the Liberty Baptist Cemetery in Belgrade under the direction of the Britton Bros. (Sparks) Funeral Home of Potosi. He leaves to survive him his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Freda Summers Foss of Potosi; his mother, Edna Garrison Foss of Franklin Lake, New Jersey; two sisters, Gladys (Mrs. Kenneth Jones) of Pearl River, New York and Ethel Foss of Franklin Lake, New Jersey; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends who will sadly miss him. A Memorial Mass was celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 3, at St. James Catholic Church, Potosi with Father Richard Tillman as Celebrant. Surviving relatives are his wife, Rose of the home; one daughter, Rose Marie, (Mrs. Bob Scheer of St. Louis); four grandchildren: Robert, Donna, Mike and Richard Scheer of St. Louis; one foster-daughter: Marilyn (Mrs. Luther Summers, of Mineral Point); two son-in-laws, Robert Scheer and Luther Summers, one brother, Walter (Red) Roderique of Rt. 1, Cadet, and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Masson of Mineral Point, sisters-in-law, other relatives and a host of friends. 2 brothers and 1 sister preceded him in death. Louis was a member of the United Methodist Church at Mineral Point. He was a Trustee and member of the Administrative Board of the Church. Chapel Services were held in Don Sparks Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9th with Rev. Harold Spiva officiating. Interment was in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Potosi, with Don Sparks Funeral Service in charge of all arrangements.
